keeping cervix

I kept my cervix to support my bladder. I lost my ovaries due to ovarian and breast cancer in my family. My doc was very open and understanding. She said she would only take it if there was something wrong with it.

Hi Mary!

Out of courtesy to your doctor, I think it would be better to phone her today if you have changed your mind about the kind of surgery you desire. It may involve different planning and preparation on her part and that of the surgical staff.

keeping cervix

Hi Mary,

I kept my cervix and I am very glad I did. I had had normal pap smears for years and I had a sturdy cervix, so I was a good candidate to keep it.

My Dr., as Sobbie said, told me that the cervix helps with future pelvic support. My Dr. also told me that the cervix helps with sex. Both have been true for me.

Ask your Dr. if she can do a SAH (Subtotal Abdominal Hysterectomy) instead of a TAH. With a SAH, you can retain your cervix.

Best wishes,

Mary
