Feeling like a wimp

Second night In the hospital and I find myself still asking for iv pain meds. They tried me on Percocet yesterday all day and it did NOTHING!! Should I feel bad about this???

Re: Feeling like a wimp

No! I found that some meds work better than others. For me, I received Vicodin, morphine, and Tordol at the hospital. If the meds aren't working for you, tell the nurse. I found that my pain was much better managed with Percocet than the meds from the hospital. I also found that a heating pad worked wonders and helped with my pain level. I hope you find some relief. Hugs.

Re: Feeling like a wimp

No!! Don't feel bad at all. This is MAJOR surgery, and it hurts! I'm 3 wks post op and still need 1 narcotic pain reliever a day. I had to get a refill and at first felt bad asking for it. The nurse thought nothing of it and told me she hoped she didn't make me feel bad when I asked. (She didn't) I can take pain, and I did for the last 2 years because of Endometriosis and fibroids. I do NOT need to suffer through my recovery, and neither do you!! (((BIG HUGS))) and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Re: Feeling like a wimp

You are not a wimp and deserve to be comfortable! My last surgery I had issues with Vicodin and Percocet not working. They switched me to dilaudid and all was good with the world. My surgery is Friday and when my doc wrote my Rx he tried to give me Percocet for after care. I reminded him that it didn't work and he wrote for dilaudid so I'm all set. Speak up for yourself, no one knows how you feel other than you!

Take care and sending hugs. I hope you're comfortable!

Re: Feeling like a wimp

Oh girl, you have NOTHING to feel bad about. Especially on day two. After my CSection I found that if I alternated ibuprophen with the narcotic that it was just enough to make it bearable.

Re: Feeling like a wimp

You are not a wimp at all!! Everyone is different and some medications that work well for others, may not work well for you. Make sure you tell your that the meds are not working and you need to try something else.

It is important for your recovery that your pain is well managed, so don't be afraid to ask for something else. I had morphine for the first day, which I was allergic to and then I was switched over to Toradol, which worked like a charm!! It really took the pain away!!

I hope you get something that works well for you so you can get some rest!!

Re: Feeling like a wimp

No!! Everyone is different and our bodies react differently to pain and to pain meds. If one type doesn't work, there are several more to choose from.

I was given the choice of morphine or Demerol once I got to my room on Monday. I choose Demerol IV push and liquid Tylenol 3 IV to control my pain. Worked really well. Only asked for the Demerol twice since the 2nd time it gave me a headache, but it knocked the pain down so that the Tylenol 3 could do its job.

Hope you get relief soon!

Re: Feeling like a wimp

No, not a wimp at all. Let them know so that they can manage your pain better. Your body can focus on its healing better, if it's not focused on the pain. Well wishes and ((BIG HUGS)) to you
