Positive CA-125

Hi! This sight is so helpful already. Thanks! I had a CA-125 (blood test for ovarian cancer) come back positive. Since then, the blood level has dropped and CT scan is negative. Dr. is confident it is endo and cysts and not cancer. Anyone else had this and what did you learn? I'm scheduled for total in one week.

Since my doctor found my cyst, I have done lots of research. What I understand the CA-125 test gives lots of false positives. The test is used alot in overian cancer patients, used to detect any change.

Had my surgery 1/2/01 SAH, just my uterus. I also had a positive CA-125 a couple months before my surgery. Scared me half to death but everything was fine - no cancer. The test is not very reliable and an elevated level can be caused by many conditions - fibroids, endo, etc. I am still waiting for my pathology report but have been told that my uterus was benign and I had adenomyosis along with the fibroids. Hope this helps.

Hi CJ...I had a CA-125 that was negative and I ended up having cancer....so the test is very unreliable. In cancer concerns here at hysters there are some threads about the test that you might want to read.I am glad the Dr thinks it is endo and cysts. I was wondering if you know what your CA125 count is?? I have endo and ovarian cysts also and I do know that this can make the test come back positive...
