Removing only one ovary and tube

I saw my gynecologist yesterday, and we have decided to remove my right ovary and tube, along with my appendix at the same time. I have ovarian cysts, and daily pain. After his exam, he said my uterus felt irregular, so he's going to take a look at the latest ultrasound which showed two small fibroids and see what he thinks. I meet with him again in two weeks and discuss surgery dates and exactly what we are going to do. I forgot to ask him if this is definitely going to be a lap. surgery, but I'm assuming it is. What kind of recovery time am I looking at? Will I need to stay overnight in the hospital? Thanks for any info!

Hi ((abcsoup)),
Sorry to hear of your upcoming surgery..I do hope it can bring you some much needed relief from your pain and symptoms

The recovery times & hospital stay all depend on the route in which your surgery is performed along with any complications and and how well your doing after your procedure. A Lap is generally done out-patient or same-day surgery as long as all goes well. If its done abdominaly..the recovery is longer as is the hospital stay.
I underwent an RSO~ removal of my right ovary & tube at 12 weeks after my Hyst. Mine was done via Lap, my surgery went well and I was able to leave the hospital a few hrs later. My recovery was fairly easy and I returned to work after a week.

I'm sure you will hear various experiences from others I did want to share a few links I found in our Resources forum that contain some excellent info on Ovarian removal along with Lap procedures in general...perhaps they can provide you with some additional insight into your questions and concerns until you can discuss them further with your Surgeon:

Info you need to know if you are a DR performing or a patient undergoing laparascopic surgery:

Removing only one ovary and tube

Hi there

I had my right ovary removed because of a dermoid cyst 6 years ago... it was only day surgery and I think I recovered fairly quickly.
and I had a lap too.

I hope everything goes good for you!!

let us know what the Dr. says
