unclear of what to expect 8days post op

surgery was wed 4/17. home thurs afternoon. pain well managed with meds. napped ate dinner went to bed. fri had 5 yr old grandson, was supposed to have help with that but they didn't show up. went ok, did small activities all day, napped x 2. felt up to cooking dinner and dishes. fri eve stopped rx pain meds they were leaving me feeling dehydrated switched to ibuprofen. sat felt AMAZING. so much energy. no naps, up all day. swept and mopped, did several loads of laundry. cleaned tv stand, which seemed like it should have been easy but involved getting up and down from floor several times. sunday, very little energy, bloated and uncomfortable. mon no energy in am better by lunch, was gauging by tons of energy sat. then tues and wed, absolutely no energy. in bed all day. this is when I found your site and realize I had been doing too much. my discharge instructions were only 'no sex or HEAVY lifting x 6 wks, otherwise listen to your body and you will know if you are doing too much.' so now that I know, I'm resting alot. I feel better today, not great like sat. Now that i have rested x 2 days how much is too much? I feel like I can trust 'listen to you body' more now b/c my body is tired. How long before I feel rested again? I thought I was going to be able to go back to work sun, 12 days post op. reconsidering that now. I do personal care for 2 teenage boys. one of whom is total care with alot of pulling and tugging to take care of him and keep him repositioned. Will have to ask dr again, he seemed to think 12 days would be enuf.

Re: unclear of what to expect 8days post op

My surgery was the same day LAVH as well. Today I swept for the first time and am paying for it now. You have definately done more than you should be at this point. I definately wouldn't be going back to work so soon either since you job seems physical. Mine is not physical. I work from home on my computer and my doc wouldn't clear me before 3 weeks and only because I can work from bed. You need to get as much rest as you can. Resting is how our bodies heal and we only have one chance to heal right
