Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

I went to a gynecologist (The person that found my multiple fibroids is my PA-C in gynecology, so she cannot do the surgery.) for a consultation. I wanted laparoscopic sx, but he only does vaginal. He does 100 of these surgeries a year. Does that seem like enough to you? I will keep my ovaries. I am confused.

Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

Oh, hunny, I really couldn't tell you how many is enough. That sounds about right, though. How many years has he been practicing? You also need to feel comfortable with him as a person. Do you? If not, I'm sure there are other GYNs you can talk to in the same office.

What are you confused about?

Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

My gyno attended the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas where he received his medical degree in 1978. He completed a four year residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital and entered private practice in 1982. He became board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1985 and was elected a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I don't want abdominal sx. I have never had a baby, so I am smaller. I just hope he can remove my uterus vaginally and not go abdominally. I am wondering if I should find someone who does only laproscopic. Guess that is why I am confused.

Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

Well, laparoscopic IS abdominal surgery, it's just not the big hip to hip incision we so frequently saw up til a few years ago. I would voice your opinion to him, and see if he does it by laparoscopy if vaginal doesn't work. If not, try to find another doctor. You never know, though, you may need it done abdominally. Find out all your options!

Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

Does he have partners in the same office???? That's what happened with me. My dr (who I trust like no other due to 2 preganancies... 1st had trouble conceiving and 2nd one had trouble carrying full term) started with discussing TAH due to location of stuff... then he asked if I would be comfy with him working with a partner because of the tight schedule with trying to head back to work. I said sure. So.... now I have age, overall experience and trust with one guy and supposedly even more skilled and experience with an additional guy. The office isnt totally thrilled because I have "stolen" both dr. for Wed. afternoon... but we laughed about it! And I think the resident I met will also be there - just to watch. Yippee and audience BIG BIG teaching hospital and practice.

Good Luck..Having options is a gooooood thing!

Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

I think 100 sounds like enough. I would though find a Dr. that is willing to consider laprascopic. I had my Uterus and left fallopian tube and went to the mall two days after surgery.

Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

Hi I was scared too. I went from not knowing why I looked pregnant to finding out I had rapidly growing fibroids to Laparoscopic Hysterectomy in three months. I only found this site two days before my surgery, which was Tuesday. Lots of people here, you are not alone. Lots of really good advice and ideas.

Re: I AM SCARED! Help!

The TLH enters the abdominal area through the belly button. It does not cut the belly at all. There's no scar.

I have 6 1" incisions, not including my belly button cut, from my TLH.

Most Laparoscopic surgeries have at least 3 incisions, belly button included. Many Da Vinci, have 4, and many TLH have 3-6.
