Almost one week post-op

Hi! I'm almost one week post op from a vag hyst with repair of an enterocele, rectocele, and cystocele that I wasn't aware that I had. I had had terrible back pain and took lots of Advil pre-op...that caused "oozing" during surgery that I lost too much blood and my hemoglobin dropped quite a bit. I have stitches inside and out. My question is: how long until it's comfortable to sit down? I'm tired standing and sitting is difficult for very long. My stitches "poke" me and several areas are tender. I take sitz baths at least twice a day and use a peri-bottle for cleaning off. My digestion finally seems to be better after a dose of MOM...I'm still taking Colace.

Oh, and my doctor says no sex for 6-8 weeks due to stitches from "stem to stern". Dh was comforted to know that the reconstruction caused the doc to have to tighten my vaginal walls to "pre-baby" size. That was 20 years ago.

Any thoughts on the stitches?

Thanks!

Almost one week post-op

Hi annecolorgreen,
Wow, you poor thing-that's a lot. I had the recotocele along with a bladder sling that required little incisions in the labia so can relate to how tender you are and how hard it is to sit.
I used a donut pillow for sitting and even with that I was somewhat limited to how long I could sit. I used to kneel at the computer if I wanted to be on for very long in the beginning. It took several months for me to be comfortable sitting for very long at a time. I found that if I reclined every chance I got instead of sitting it was a good thing. It did get a lot better sooner than that, but I could feel that it was still tender after a while.
If you continue to feel the stitches poking you I would ask the dr about it. Sometimes they leave knots exposed or ends that poke and he might be able to fix it for you.
Make sure you keep up with the stool softener. You don't want to have to strain at all. I hope you will heal quickly.

's, Rita
