Are Hip and Lower Back Pain...Normal?
I am 5 weeks post-op of a total DaVinci assisted hysterectomy. I've been having really bad hip and back pain on my left side only. It makes it hard to walk. I'm afraid to take any strong pain meds because I don't want to start any bleeding again. This has gone on for two days now and a hot bath didn't help. I see the doctor Monday, but hubby thinks I should call now. Any thoughts?

Re: Are Hip and Lower Back Pain...Normal?
I don't know if it is normal, but I have had the same issue. The hip joint hurts (on the right side) and lower back. We have the same surgery date too. I just assumed I slept funny or something. I also have an appt Monday. I will be interested in what others have experienced.

Hmmm...interesting. I thought the same thing. Hopefully we'll be get some encouraging news. I'm not sure I'm up for a weight lifting and standing release if I still feel like this. I was hoping to feel better by now.

Re: Are Hip and Lower Back Pain...Normal?
Hi ladies!! I hope your pain goes away soon. I've low back pain since week 8 post op (I'm now 4 months post op) and I still have low back pain. I've been going back and for (OB GYNO and GP), the Gyno said for that pain go to your regular dr then gp said (at 8-9 weeks) that my Gyno should take care of me and the long story short is that I'm taking Tramadol and Flexeril to "deal" with this pain. My insurance didn't approve a CatScan that my gp requested to find out why I am in so much pain (including an ER visit). Now I need to wait till the end of the month to see my gp again (she said that if I still have pain by that appt,, she will then try to get the insurance approval for the CatScan. In the meantime, I try to handle this pain and hoping to find out the cause of this. I just can say to you to don't give up and insist to your Dr to help you. Sorry for the vent. Good luck BIG HUGS TO ALL OF YOU!!

Re: Are Hip and Lower Back Pain...Normal?
Pain has gotten worse. I couldn't wait for Monday. I saw my doctor today. He said everything looks good inside...a little ozzy, but ok. We're both baffled as to why I'm in this much pain so far out. He cathed me to get sterile urine to test. He also ordered a pelic/abdomen CAT Scan, took blood, and prescribed a muscle relaxer. My scan is tomorrow. Guess I have to drink some stuff an hour before. So...looks like I'm off work for a week after being back for two. I'm so frustrated...to the point of regretting having this done.

Re: Are Hip and Lower Back Pain...Normal?
Hey Becca3368,
I have the same surgery date as you guys and I was just in to see my doctor today. One of the things he said in my case was this: When you have a major surgery you compensate with your back muscles while any other muscles that were cut or affected by the surgery heal, so if you start to do too much it is common to have lower back pain flair up on you. My pain is bareable at the moment because I have some other complications that came with my surgery and am still taking a stronger pain med every 6 hours. I might suggest a chiropractor too for long term pain. The positions you may have been in during the surgery can tweak nerves and such, it definitely did in my case and I can't wait until my doctor gives me the okay for my back adjustment. Just a thought. Hope you get feeling better soon.

Re: Are Hip and Lower Back Pain...Normal?
Gotta say, my family loves it when I'm on pain medication. They never know what I'm gonna say or do. It's been a source of amusement for them. I remember my son asking last night, "What's wrong with mom?" After taking meds last night, I woke up in feeling sooo much better. I could still feel it, but at least I could function better. I'm taking more before it gets any worse. I told my daughter last night I will probably need her to drive me to my CAT Scan appointment. Now it's off to la la land again.
