One week post-op--vomiting now
Hi all,
I am one-week post-op today, and just had a bad bout of vomiting for the first time. I had taken 2 Citrucel capsules with a bottle of water about 10 mintes before the nausea hit, and not sure if this triggered it.
I have had two BM's since surgery (one yesterday) and am on Colace, but no BM today--suffering from severe left-quadrant pain, which my doc said yesterday is from inflammation of the sigmoid colon. Taking Toradol for that now. I am slowly sipping on some room-temp. Sprite, but my appetite has been extremely poor ever since the surgery, and I am not hungry/don't feel up to eating anything right now. I am not running a fever anymore.
I put in a call to my doc, as he'd said to call if I developed vomiting--am waiting for a call back now...
Anyone else have problems with vomiting at this point, and if so, what actions did you take? I'd greatly appreciate all advice and support...I thank you kindly in advance for all replies. Hope you are all doing well.
Sincerely, Trish

One week post-op--vomiting now
Trish,
I had vomiting 2 days after surgery. I believe it was because I wasn't passing gas or anything else. I believe I had started eating too soon and there was no place for anything to go but OUT. Once I started passing gas and voiding again the nausea and vomiting stopped. Keep us posted! We'll be thinking about you.

One week post-op--vomiting now
Hi Trish,
I feel for you. I had major problems with vomiting starting four days after surgery and lasting up until two weeks. My doctor put me on Phenergan and that helped wonders. She said my stomach was sensitive and then being hit with so many drugs just hit me wrong. I wasn't eating as well as I should either so that had a lot to do with it.
Saltines and ginger ale.....worked wonders for me.
Good luck to you!!

One week post-op--vomiting now
I vomited a bit as well. I felt nauseated eating and drinking and would hurl suddenly -especially drinking coffee. I had to be real careful about what I ate. Try to keep those fluids in though to BM. Try drinking hot water with lemon & small dash of salt in the morning, also gatoraide during the day. My gyn's secretary told me to take gravol, I never did though as I wanted to see if it would pass,it did in a few days. I had it quite bad late the first week - then into the second. I couldn't drink pop. I ate a lot of greek salad for the nutrients and fibre, then chicken or salmon for meat, I ate little no starch & dairy didn't work for me so I did soymilk in my fibre cereal with strawberries (very high in fibre). Hand in there it will get better! I thought it was gingerale that was good for the tummy - cause of the ginger.

One week post-op--vomiting now
Hi all!
Thanks so kindly to each of you who replied...I read each of your comments/suggestions carefully, and when out of the house yesterday, managed to make a trip to WalMart for some gingerale and saltines. Also stopped by my Dad's house, and while there, managed to hold down a small salad!
Monday night was just terrible, and after I had posted, I waited for my doc to call back--he advised that given my inflammation of sigmoid colon, he was worried about possible intestinal obstruction developing. He asked that someone bring me some Ensure, and drink one one those...if vomiting recurred within an hour or so of drinking it, I was to report to the ER. While I have remained nauseated and constipated, no more vomiting--yay!!! So no trips to the ER for me
I am still getting by on Ensure, crackers and gingerale...yesterday doc added a med. called Reglan, 10mg, to take 3 times a day, to help regulate the intestines. Also, I already had Compazine on hand to take as needed for nausea. All-in-all, I am feeling okay...
Again, thank you all so very much for sharing your experiences and wisdom with me--your kind words and thoughts are greatly appreciated. Please take care & I wish you all the very best
Sincerely, Trish

One week post-op--vomiting now
I too was prescribed Phenergan (tried Zofran, but it did not provide as much relief) for my nausea and vomiting. Really, since I was on clear liquids for so long it was really more like spitting up. I am still taking it as needed. My diet now is still pretty much clear liquids and bland food (toast, crackers, etc.) I can't even stand strong smells. My doctor warned me to be conscious of dehydration, and to keep my liquid intake up as much as possible.
Hope you are feeling better soon!
