Alien Stitch

Ok, kind of grossed out but I just found part of a stitch with string hanging out of one of my dvH incisions in my belly. I've been thinking it was part of a scab or something. Haven't really wanted to look closely at them....it's a string !!! I went to pull it but I think not !!! Anyone else have this? Not sure what to do? I'm 5 weeks post op.

Re: Alien Stitch

I had my stitches out on Monday, and I experienced several areas that had stitches poking out. They had been cut, so I pulled them out.

Re: Alien Stitch

I also had that a couple of weeks ago. It was so gross! One of my incision scabs came off, but it was still connected to my body by a stitch that was poking out of the incision.

I snipped it, because what was I going to do, walk around with it sticking out of my stomach?

That's my only incision that hasn't healed.

Re: Alien Stitch

I had a little stitch poking it's head out too, so I sterilized my cuticle nippers and snipped it off :-D

Re: Alien Stitch

So if I snip it off will it keep working its way out? I don't want it to get infected or fester.

Re: Alien Stitch

Hi - I had similiar thing happen to me - I have a 5 inch bikini line incision from the hematoma surgery and I felt a stitch -or string-whatever coming out of my incision from the time I came home. It kinda grossed me out for awhile - I left it there and didn't dare pull on it until my incision felt 100% healed/sealed and then I snipped it off - I thought it would dissolve but it never did. I haven't had any problems with the incision. Take Care!

Re: Alien Stitch

You guys are braver than I. I too had a stitch poking out (from where my catheter had been inserted) but I had my doctor do the snipping.

Re: Alien Stitch

I had stitches in two of my three incisions do that very same thing. I had an appointment with my doctor already for follow up this past wednesday so I left them until I saw him. He explained that they bury the stitches very far under the skin and that some people rather than dissolve the whole stitch actually work them out of their body. That is what I was doing. He very quickly and painlessly grabbed each of them at the office and removed them. I had tugged on them a bit when i was in the shower and couldn't get them to budge. He of course took care of them in 2 minutes or less! LOL If you don't want to go to the doctor, I would suggest cleaning your tweezers and a small pair of scissors and snipping then tugging a little bit!
