Hysterectomy for Endometriosis

Well, I decided after much thought to call my doctor and ask them if they could take out both ovaries. The nurse said that would be fine and probably a good idea. I don't really know why they recommended I keep one except maybe he was trying to be conservative about it. I'd rather have it all out, I think. I've felt so bad for so long. Why drag it out any longer than I have to? I appreciate all the replies, btw. It's helped me decide what to do. Now I just have to deal with the massive fear!

Hysterectomy for Endometriosis

Hi Pat,

I'm glad you have come to some resolution on this issue. I believe it is important to have those questions settled before you go under.

I just came back from my post op appointment today. My doctor said that I had a lot of adenomyosis. When I asked him about hrt, he said that he wanted to hold off on prescribing hrt for about 6 months because he wanted to make sure that any remaining implants would die off. I asked him about otc drugs like Estreven and he said it would be okay to take because the estrogen levels are so low. He also said that the drug companies are coming out with new low doses of estrogen for those who aren't quite comfortable taking the full doses but also aren't satisfied with the otc brands.

Good luck with your surgery. I hope you have a quick recovery and will be able to say (as many of us princesses have said) that you feel better than you did before the surgery. Take it easy and listen to your doctor's orders to rest after the surgery. On the day that I was discharged at the hospital, my nurse said "Now you get to be a princess". I thought her choice of words was special and made me feel good.
