How soon until you can make it on your own?

If your kids are pretty self-sufficient and you have plenty of easy to cook or ready to eat snacks and meals stocked up, you will be fine. I had help, but the main thing they did was keep the kids (ages 2 and 5) out of my hair, and I basically slept. I don't remember much about that first week. As a matter of fact, my sister broke my favorite baking dish while she was here helping, and I went to cook with it today and forgot that she even told me she broke it. I had to call my husband and see what happened!!! You will just want to sleep. Have someone that can pick up meds and any last minute cravings, make sure they have food to eat for the first few days, and you will do just fine!!!

When I asked my doctor about this preop, he said that I would be able to do everything FOR MYSELF by the time I went home. This included bathroom trips, showers (might want to have someone close by just in case), making small snacks, moving around, etc. He was right. I don't remember doing them, but I did. I'll bet your kids will be excellent help and I wouldn't worry a bit. Oh, can one of them drive? That will be an absolute necessity!!! No driving for several weeks!!!
