Its been four weeks since hysterectomy - concerned about returning to work

I am 4 weeks post op. I'm feeling ok, just still have bouts of tiredness. I'm still having the "swelly belly" which is quite annoying. I was having quite a bit of pain at the end of urination but thats getting better. I have some stitches that are hurting some in my navel. Should be getting ready to go back to work in a few weeks but worried that I wont have the energy. As a mail carrier, I wonder if I should go back part time. Any suggestions??

I went back to work(teaching and on my feet all day) part-time at 5 weeks and full-time at 6 weeks. I feel like I would have been much better if I would have waited 7-8 weeks to go back. Those first few weeks were awful. Everyone is different, and you only get one chance to recover, so my suggestion would be to wait until YOU feel ready.

I went back to work on light duty at 6 weeks, but didn't start feeling really good until 8 weeks.

I think that best thing that you can do to get yourself ready is to start increasing your activity levels a little bit day by day so that when you go back, you won't have a drastic change. I imagine that you are walking quite a bit already, that will help. Also be sure that you will be cleared to carry however heavy your mail might be.

Re: Its been four weeks since hysterectomy - concerned about returning to work

I had a TAH 3 weeks ago and am going back to work next week for 10 hours and will gradually increase my hours to full-time based on how I'm feeling. I have a desk job and am on the computer most of the day so I should be fine.

I would recommend going back part-time when you FEEL ready and also seeing how you feel walking since that is part of your job. I would also double-check that you are cleared to carry the weight of the mail you deliver. You don't want to go back to work too soon and then lengthen your recovery.

Good luck and take care of yourself!

Re: Its been four weeks since hysterectomy - concerned about returning to work

I had my LAVH four weeks ago this past Tuesday and went back to work part time last week. I have a desk job but also get up a lot to help customers. I was exhausted from working just four hours a day. I went back full time this week and was overly tired by the end of the day and started having lower back pain which my doctor said was a sign of overdoing it. Thinking about working some full and half days next week.
