Went to the Gym....

Had the green light from the doc yesterday to go ahead and start walking on the treadmill slowly (3 wks p/o). So I was very eager to get back to the Y and start working up some endurance. I was thinking "I'm gonna be lookin pretty stupid walking 2 miles/hour" but I don't care. I worked up my speed to find my comfort level, and settled in at 1.8 mph. It seemed super duper slow, but I had an hour there (had to hitch a ride from a friend...still no green light on driving), so I wanted to be sure I didn't do too much. It felt super! I was so happy So I get home and DH wants to go shopping, and I felt up to it. Got dressed, went for lunch, and then could NOT do anymore. I was falling asleep on my feet and was hurting like I usually do by the end of the day. I had to come home and take a 2 hour nap (and I had already quit the napping over a week ago).

So although I was okay with doing the slow hour, it was a full days 'work' and left me exhausted. I think I will have to cut that time in half, and then people watch with a hot cup of tea while I wait on my friend next time.

I just wanted to share my experience with you. My doc said that I could be running by 6 weeks, so I know I got the bright eyes when she said that.

I have really learned so much from this website, it is great to keep a list of things you want to ask your doctor on the next visit. You gals are the best

Went to the Gym....

i know the urge. i am almost 3 wks post-op but i couldn't take it anymore. since i have been walking around the neighborhood a bit, and it was cold out, yesterday i hit the treadmill for 30 min. i think i maxed at 3.0mph. never broke a sweat but it sure felt good.

just continue listening to your body and you'll be up, and running, in no time.

3mph?? You go sister! Wow! I bet that felt really good. I haven't been 'doing' the neighborhood. I probably have read too much here on not overdoing it, that I probably have *underdone* it We probably hear more about the problems and slow recoveries on here b/c the ones that recover quicker, are out there busy with other stuff. I would like to read more posts by those that have recovered quickly and their *secrets*

Went to the Gym....

I had my surgery four days earlier than yours, and began walking a few days ago at an near-by indoor mall where it is flat, warm, and safe. I found out the first day that my endurance is nex to nil and I had to stop and rest a few times, but I made down to one end and back again.

I have always been an active, healthy person, and thought my recovery would be quicker and easier than most. Wrong. At the end of the day I am soooo tired, and tend to spot when I'm on my feet too much, which sounds like many if not most of the sisters here.

I think the secret for me is to set small goals for myself each day, listen to my body, then add a little bit at a time only when it feels right. The one thing I have noticed is that our surgeries have affected each of us differently, so the recovery is bound to be different as well.

I look forward to the day that we check in with each other that we are back to normal.....but until then I am so glad we have one another to lean on
