Two weeks post-op freaked out about bladder discomfort

So I'm two weeks post-op from a TVH. It's been pretty uneventful with little pain. This afternoon however, my bladder started to feel very achy, maybe a little crampy. Could my bladder be falling? Some of the posts say you can see it prolapsing. How is that possible? I thought my doc created a vaginal cuff which means it's closed up, right? Sorry I sound dumb but this kind of crap always happens when the doc's office is closed!!
I know what a uti feels like, when I was younger I had many, many uti's. It's not that kind of pain. It's more of a dull ache with cramping here and there. I've been really good with my resting except that I unloaded the dishwasher.

Two weeks post-op freaked out about bladder discomfort

Well, I noticed some bladder tenderness right from the beginning. I had to empty very frequently. ( I always have to empty frequently anyway, but this was every 5-10 minutes in the beginning. ) I will say that as a week or two went by I found out what the doc meant by bladder spasms. Sometimes it feels like it was jumping around in me by itself. Other times it felt crampy and painful when I was emptying my bladder. I'm 7 weeks out now and still empty frequently, but not as bad as before. For example I went out to lunch today and held it for TWO hours! So there is hope, you just have to be patient.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

Two weeks post-op freaked out about bladder discomfort

Right at my two week post op mark I was feeling bladder discomfort as well. Thought I had a UTI......urinalysis says no. Doc (nurse) thinks its just bladder spasms and just that the bladder was moved around, yadda, yadda, yadda....They did give me some UTA for bladder spasms. Its also an antiseptic that kills bacteria in the bladder. Anyway, those feelings went away and now they are back. Just off and on. Nothing terrible or anything, just annoying. I am also having pain on my right side, so not sure if they are related. I don't have that ovary anymore, nor do I have my gallbladder.

Anyway, just wanted to say I think bladder discomfort is normal. Mine has been on and off. Do talk to your doctor. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

Two weeks post-op freaked out about bladder discomfort

Hi Jfogy,

It took me about 3 weeks to get rid of that bladder ache you describe. It's uncomfortable but nothing to worry about unless you suspect a UTI? Does your pee smell bad?
My surgeon told me that the bladder will be a bit sore and I might have trouble emptying it until the bladder finds its new position. It used to rest on top of a uterus, so it has to find a new resting place.
Hope this helps!

What you have is very normal. It is the only "problem" I had at all. At the end of week 4 my bladder was fine. It just took time for it to settle into the new body parts. Hang in there.

Two weeks post-op freaked out about bladder discomfort

Thank you ladies!! My recovery has been pretty uneventful so when this popped up today I got nervous. Thanks for the reassurance. If it's still bothering me on Monday I'll call the doc.

Thanks Again!

Yep, I would just give it some time. It really does get better each day. I thought that was just a perky saying but it turns out it is true.

Two weeks post-op freaked out about bladder discomfort

I have had bladder issues on and off the entire time, I did have a UTI but the pain and irritation was still there after meds and I kept testing NEG for UTI. I did some research on IC BLADDER even though I dont have it, I found going by that diet helped with the bladder pain and plus took some Prelief (made by Beano) it removes acid from the foods you eat with meals, it does NOTHING For the acid in your stomach, only from foods you eat so if I eat tomato sauce I take 2 with the meal to remove the acid from the sauce I ate. GOOD LUCK its not easy!!! I finally had to start taking a one a day 5 mg Ditropan (sp ck) generic to help me sleep at night I was up so much due to bladder tenderness.
