Hysterectomy surgery to be scheduled
I have had a laproscopy/hysteroscopy & DNC to try & "clean up". I have had heavy periods for years & bad cramping - the dr was hoping the last surgery would help, however my periods are still heavy & interfering with daily activites - it's very aggrevating at this point as I've been dealing with this for so long so I have had to make the final decision on hysterectomy - this was the last stop for me as I've tried medications, other surgeries, etc. I won't lie - I am nervous as hell! I am a strong woman, but things like this I get very anxious. I have really bad anxiety & this has made it shoot thru the roof! I go tomorrow to schedule my hysterectomy. I wanted to get thru the summer so I'm going for something in August. I am only 33 yrs old (will be in a cpl mo's) - has anyone been this young & had bad experiences? A lot of ppl tell me I will be so glad once I've done this & gotten over the hard part so I'm hoping those stories are true! I've also done a lot of research & have realized there are a lot of women as young as me or even younger that have had to go thru this. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Hysterectomy surgery to be scheduled
Also, I must mention that while in there in Feb, he found pre-pre-cancer in my endometrial tube (sp??) as well as several adhesions where things were attached to places they shouldn't have been. I also had a cyst on my right ovary - I think he will take out the right one & leave the left one. My grandmother was also diagnosed & passed away from ovarian cancer - they did not find it until she was in the final stage & passed a few days later so that also puts a very heavy strain on me as that is my worst fear in life - CANCER!!!!! Just wanted to add this to my previous note.

Re: Hysterectomy surgery to be scheduled
I know it is a hard decision, and a scarey one at that! It sounds to me like you are headed in the right direction based on your family and medical history. I'm 36 and wish I would have done it sooner. I'm nearly 3 weeks out and feel great, actually I feel totally normal like nothing was ever done. The honest truth is that pre-op jitters are by far the worst part of this whole experience. But your fear is absolutely normal. Once you know what procedure you are having you can do the research and visit this fabulous site with questions and concerns. The sisters here got me through it and they will you, too. Hang in there and good luck tomorrow!

Re: Hysterectomy surgery to be scheduled
Thank you so much for your kind words. And you're pretty young like me so it's nice having someone around your own age to talk with & get advice from. What kind did they perform on you? And you say you're 3 weeks out, how long do they have you out of work, if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks again! I really appreciate the words & support. It's nice having others going thru the same to share this with.

Re: Hysterectomy surgery to be scheduled
I can understand your jitters, I am 29 and having LAVH/BSO on Aug. 8th I am such a planner so this making me nuts, we had to plan mine a little further out than my doc wanted due to a scheduling conflict with summer vacation. I am so thankful for the information I have gotten from this site as I have a husband that travels for his job and 4 and 7 year old boys. My mind is in a tailspin with everything we need to get done and I will have been back from vacation about a week prior to my surgery so making sure I have everything in order is what is bugging me the most. I have heard that like you I will be glad I did it once it is done but trying to plan everything in my already crazy brain may just do me in, lol. I have been lucky to have a couple of good friends that are our age that have had it done recently and said it will be worth it once you get on the other side, they said they saw 110% quality of life improvement so I hope we can find the same!

Re: Hysterectomy surgery to be scheduled
I sooo feel you!!! My head is already a little crazy too so this is making it spin out of control, literally - I actually feel like I have so many decision & so many things going on with kids (3 of them..ages 17, 9, & 8), hubby, work, just everything & now this! I too won't go in until sometime in August to make sure my son gets back into school 1st (obviously, I'm a planner like yourself, lol). This site is awesome tho & I'm so glad I found it & joined. I have literally sat & cried all day...I'm feeling so alone in this & feel like something important is being taken from me (it is!)...just such a crappy feeling - like you're unsure exactly how to feel! Thanks for your words - & yes, hopefully we too will be able to say this was the best thing everrrr!!! lol! Sounds like we may go in at the same time so we'll def have to keep each other posted!

Re: Hysterectomy surgery to be scheduled
I am 32 and will be having my hysterectomy August 21st. I also decided to put it off until later in the summer, mainly because I wanted to enjoy the summer with my kids (3 yrs and 16 mo old). I had to wait a week for someone to call and schedule the surgery and that was an awful week for me since I need to be sure I got a date that worked around when my husband can take off and when my family can come help me. Once I finally got that date, I have been feeling better and I'm trying to hold off on doing anymore worrying until the time gets closer. I want to enjoy my summer the best I can and then worry later. The problem is, just like lacycurry stated, I feel like I have so much to prepare for before that time comes. I still have almost 2 months, but I feel like I am totally booked already for that whole time. Then I also want to be sure I have the house stocked with snacks and food, diapers etc for my family so that my husband doesn't have to worry about having to buy as much at the store each week too. I know it will all work out in the end and I will feel better once I am healed from the hysterectomy, but it is hard not to worry. My mom also had a hysterectomy when she was 34 for the same reasons as me (endometriosis, andenomyosis) and she said it was the best thing she did. Hopefully you will feel a little more at ease once you have a date and can get all your plans in place and research exactly what you are going to be having done. Since my pain has been getting worse and worse even since I have made the decision to have the surgery, I know that I am doing the right thing and will be happier once I am through it. My main concern isn't for me since I know I can handle the pain of surgery, it is for my kids. Will they feel neglected since I can't do as much with them? Good luck to you and hopefully reading this site will help your anxiety about things. It has for me.
