what is the usual wait for pathology report?

Hi,
Been reading a lot here and am thankful for such a huge and helpful resource for us all.

My lavh/bso is on the 18th and I've been spotting/bleeding since the end of Sept. with maybe four to five days of no bleeding. Gyn put me on extra progesterone to help stop it but instead of spotting I started having heavy periods with only a couple of days in between them.

I did have the vaginal ultrasound showing multiple fibroids and a thickened lining. (10-12 wk size uterus)
Then the uterine biopsy which showed hyperplasia with no atypia but when the bleeding didn't stop the gyn suggested there may be some cancer and reccommended the hyster.

Hopefully the bleeding is from the fibroids etc., and not the C word but of course I'm worried.

I was 50 in the fall and have been struggling with HRT for ten years already due to a diagnosis of Premature Ovarian Failure even tho' I still had sporatic cycles of periods or spotting during the years.

I also started Synthroid two years ago for hypothyroidism which seemed to wake my ovaries up a little.

So, things seem a little complicated and I'm trying to remain calm. I don't have a huge support system but what I have is good.

Best wishes and thanks.

Re: what is the usual wait for pathology report?

Hi LBrooks ~~

Sorry you have been having such a rough time. I had postmenopausal bleeding and a thickened lining and had a D&C, hysterscopy, and biopsy on Dec. 1. My dr. had mentioned the C word too and it really freaks us out to hear that, doesn't it? I got the results ~benign~ on Dec. 10 at my follow up appt. I have hyperplasia without atypia, she also removed a polyp. I'll be having my hysterectomy Feb.18th.

I hope you will also get good news from your biopsy, that your surgery will be successful in treating your problems, and that you have an easy recovery.

Sending you smiles and star filled wishes ~~ StarryNite

Re: what is the usual wait for pathology report?

I had my LAVH on the 28th and had the preliminary biopsy - negative - back on the 31st. There was some additional testing that is supposed to be back this week.

Re: what is the usual wait for pathology report?

My experience with pathology reports is that the bad ones tend to come back much faster than the good (benign) ones - so having to wait a bit is a good thing.

Re: what is the usual wait for pathology report?

I think it depends on the lab and hospital. My mom had mass removed off her parotid gland Monday and the dr had the report b4 he came to talk to us.
With my d&cs it was a week or so.
Try not to worry. I too have hyperplasia without atypia. He said on his experiences this type is non cancerous, and treated with provera. However my hyperplasia came back, which he told me happens in like 3%of women, so wig that and my hx of endometriosis, I am going to the castle! Best of luck to you, and I hope thisadw you feel somewhat better.

Re: what is the usual wait for pathology report?

Thanks for all the helpful replies.
I've had so many biopsies in my life that I had to wait on and they've all been benign but I've never had such a major sugery. Most of my biopsies have been on moles and once on a polyp on my cervix and one stereotactical on my breast.
This just seems so much bigger even tho' the uterine biopsy didn't show pre-c.
I've had the fibroids and thickened lining for years but for some reason they started growing and causing more symptoms.
She was just going to watch things again but the bleeding wouldn't stop so.... more biopsies exept way bigger.
That's what I"ll call my hyst.....a big biopsy!

Best wishes to you all!
