Best stool softener??
Milk of Magnesia works for me when I need it. I want to have back ups after surgery so thinking about buying stool softeners. Are the more expensive ones, Colace, etc... definitely better than the others??
Thanks,
Brenda

Best stool softener??
I just used a generic stool softener - about $3 for 100.
I used morning and night for about 10 days to ensure I didn't have to strain, then went to bedtime only for another week.

Best stool softener??
Hi Brenda
Just want to make sure you're clear on the difference between the stool softener and something like the MOM, which is a laxative. They started me on stool softeners right away to keep everything soft so when it was time to have that first BM and those that would follow, it would be easier.
After five days I still hadn't successfully had a BM, so I used some MOM to get it going. I had repairs done too and everything was very tender. I couldn't have imagined straining even a little bit. I personally think the stool softeners are a good idea for everyone. They are nonhabit forming but they are NOT a laxative. Everyone should ask their drs of course and follow their instructions. If they aren't mentioned I would recomment you ask about them. Good luck, I hope it all goes smoothly(no pun intended )

Thanks Rita. Yes, I know the difference but I was going to take both. As I understand it, the MOM adds water to the stool making it easier to "go". I am on a mission NOT to get bound up. So any advice, diet, etc..would be appreciated.
