Cauterize the cervix question

My doc is going to cauterize the cervix so it doens't get mini periods. I wonder if this decreases the normal functioning of the cervix in any way. Does anyone have any input on this? Thanks!

Cauterize the cervix question

I'm not sure what you mean by "normal functioning of the cervix," since the cervix is merely part of the uterus and not a separate organ, but I don't think cautery does anything negative in regard to the cervix. From what I have read, I believe that cautery is done simply to prevent cyclic "mini-periods," for the convenience of the patient.

Cauterize the cervix question

Hi Paperdahl,

I had my cervix cauterized during my hyst. I have not had a mini-period in post-op.

I have to agree with Bizet Woman. I feel there has been no change with my cervix in post-op from cauterization.

Best wishes,

Mary

Paperdahl,

I also had my cervix cauterized and have noticed no difference in feeling or function. The no mini periods is GREAT!

Cauterize the cervix question

no i doesn't decrease normal function, however it is not a 100% that you will not have mini periods either. I had my cervix cauterized and I just had a mini period today. and this is consider to be normal to have one. it is a topic of mini periods on this site. I read it before.

Cauterize the cervix question

My daughter had her cervix cauterized and was getting mini periods anyway. Her doctor cauterized it again and they stopped. No It did not affect sexual function in any way according to her.... I am asking my doctor to cauterize my cervix becuase I don't want ANY period if I don't have to have it. If the cauterization he does during surgery does not work, they will ususally do it again in the office if you tell them you are bleeding.
