One last period

What will happen if I start my period on the day of my scheduled surgery? If my cycle stays on calendar, that is exactly what will happen! Any advise?

My last visit from Aunt Flo (the old hag) started the morning of my surgery. The nurse told me that if they waited for women to stop bleeding there would be very few surgeries. I think Aunt Flo knows she's about to be evicted and wants one last visit. Like my surgical nurse told me....hunny, it's about time you showed your body who's boss.

I asked my doc about that the day we scheduled my surgery, because my periods are so unpredictable. She said it was not an problem. I pressed the issue because one would think that if the area is engorged with blood, there is a greater risk of bleeding problems, right? Her reply was that so many women have gynocological surgery because of heavy or unpredictable bleeding that is is as common to preform surgety on a woman while she is bleeding as when she is not.

Not only did my period arrive on schedule, two days before my surgery date, but it was extremely heavy and very painful. To make things worse, I couldn't even take Advil for the pain. It was a relief to come out of surgery without bleeding and cramps. In fact, I had very little spotting afterwards. I am now almost 3 weeks post-op and recovery very well. It is hard to believe that I won't have a period this month or ever again.

Thank you, ladies, for putting my mind at ease about my one last visit from Aunt Flo on the day of my scheduled surgery. Not only am I going to experience my full visit from Aunt Flo on my 43rd birthday, but it will be my last full visit from her! I guess that is one way of celebrating. I am not looking forward to the bloating and cramping that I get right before but now I can rest assured that even mother nature can't stop this surgery from happening. Thanks again - I guess I am just nervous going the the countdown, i.e. 29 days and counting!

I did my surgery during my period - Just say Bye, bye aunty flo - lol

I am in the same boat you are. I normally start on the 1st, and my surgery is scheduled for the 4th. My doc said that it didn't matter whether I was bleeding or not. Good Luck.

I can't speak to the hyster but know the dr. & nurses echoed the same as other posters right before my E/A-- not a problem. Yes, I started the day before my E/A and was somewhat embarrassed -- the worse part was being in the robe w/ no undies and a sanitary pad wedged between my legs (TMI I know!) hoping I wouldn't leak on the table. :-0
