Re: Bowel problems
I too went 5 days before a movement. I got desparate and started mixing "normal" BM tricks. For example: I drank lots of apple juice, did a rectal enema (baby kind, so it isn't too strong) took a correctal, and that did the trick. I would suggest staging it. I started with apple juice, then a few hours did the enema, then three hours later took the correctol. I tried to just push it out, and my hemmoroid busted, and it hurt like giving birth! Also, take deep breaths and relax while in the bathroom. I know it sounds weird, but severe constipation can be very painful, and you need to menatlly prepare to not over push and cause more damage. If it doesn't start moving, get up and lay down until you feel the need to push again. I know this is a little lengthy, and feel free to call the doctor. I know I did. Although, I was told to just continue what I was doing, and it was normal. Lots of water too! It WILL get better. I am four weeks out and going much more regular. Let me know if I can help answer any more ?'s.

Re: Bowel problems
Are you still taking a pain med like Hydrocone, Vicodin, etc... If so that could be the reason for your constipation. I took a large cap full of Milk of Magnesia, and in no time, I was going. However, you will have to get past the one uncomfortable stool that has been allowed to take up tenancy and become a bit hard and ornary. But, I PROMISE it is not that bad. It's the fear of the unknown. Just get the "Milk Of Magnesia"-- it's your friend!

Re: Bowel problems
I had this same problem...I took stool softeners two in the morning and two at night...a total of 400mg for the whole day. Doctor told me high fiber and she had me drinking 90 ounces of water a day. That finally did the trick.
As jahulobo said, once you get past that first one, you will feel so much better. Funny story, because I didn't want to push, I sat in the bathroom for about 15 minutes...when it finally happened, I yelled "YAY!!!!" Hubby asked "what?" I said.. "I pooped" LOL! I felt like a little kid popping in the toilet for the first time.
Water Water Water...if the stool softeners don't work, doc also recommended Miralax and for the gas pains, the Gas Ex strips work wonders for me.
Good luck...I remember that all too well.

Re: Bowel problems
I'm still waiting too... Drinking all kinds of fluids and eating high fiber fruit. Walking as much as I dare since having increased bleeding. Added senokot last night to the colace, mag citrate, and flaxseed meal I was already taking and still nothing.
Hope this happens soon so I can get past it and stop worrying.
