questions: total hysterectomy?
I am scheduled to have my hysterectomy on the 24th and still have questions. Dr was saying something about sewing above where the cervix was so with that being said is that meaning o am having a total hysterectomy? They are doing laparoscopic. I am sooo confused. Have appt Monday the 17 for pre op guess can ask more but knowing me I will probably forget. Any ways she was saying that when she sews that my husband and I can't have sex for 6-8 weeks or is that just normal. Not that it matters anyways but curious. Thanks ahead of time ladies!!!

Re: questions
Writing down the questions and bringing them to my Pre-Op appointment helped - just handed the list to my doctor and he went through them with me...

Re: questions
Yes, and write down the answers!!! I could not remember much of what my doctor said, so luckily I had my husband with me who did remember.
The 6- 8 weeks sounds normal for all of us gals having any type of procedure. I can't answer the question about your cervix - that's one for your doc. Good luck!

Re: questions
This link may be helpful to you: Hysterectomy Defined
This explains Laparoscopic Hyster
A total hyster is the removal of the uterus and cervix. A partial hyster is the removal of uterus, leaving the cervix intact. Many people think a total is also the removal of the ovaries, but that is actually a separate procedure.
When the cervix is removed, the end of the vagina is sewn shut, sealing the vagina from the abdominal cavity. This creates the vaginal cuff. The cuff needs 6-8 weeks to heal so during that time you will have restrictions. These include no sex, no baths, no swimming, no lifting, bending or housework. You doctor may have additional restrictions based on your personal situation.
I was cleared for sex at 8 weeks post op. I didn't feel ready, so we waited until 9 weeks.
I hope this helps.

Re: questions: total hysterectomy?
Take notes that is the best thing - so much information is thrown at you all at once. The doctor knows that there are going to be many questions. Limit your online searches as there is so much info out there it can be overwhelming. Hope all goes well for you

Re: questions: total hysterectomy?
Smart move. I don't recommend watching the videos for most people. I have a curiousity about medical stuff and I have tried several times post op to watch a TVH but I can't do it, it makes ne feel ill.
