Newbie Intro
Hello Everyone,
I am fairly new to HysterSisters. An online acquantance sent me here when she heard that I was scheduled for a hyst. So far, I am really liking it here, reading some of the posts and the pre-op suggestions.
As of yet, I do not know what kind of hyst I will be having. I am still waiting for results of the biopsy that was taken last week. All I know at this point is I do have what looks like fibroids from the Ultrasound. My pre-op appt is Feb 18th and my surg. is Feb 26th.
I had a lapo. and was diagnosed with endo. in Dec. 2001 (had tubal at the same time) and nothin was done about it at the time. After 2 years of irregular break thru bleeding, my family dr convinced me to get the depo prevera shot (Sept. 02) to control the bleeding. A month after my shot, (Oct 7th) I started bleeding real heavy. At first I didn't think much of it, just figured it was a heavy period. But after 2 months of bleeding heavy every single day I asked my dr about it and was told that Depo is known to do that. Soooo, after 4 months of non stop bleeding I asked her again and was told it could take up to 6 months for the bleeding to stop and was convinced to have another shot. They also checked my iron and was told that I am anemic from all the blood loss and my dr was still hesitant to referr me to an OB/Gyn. I finally convinced her that I want to see an OB/Gyn and the Gyn sent me for an ultrasound and it showed what looks to fibroids. The Gyn offered to do a DNC and I asked about a hyst and she did not hesitate to say that could be done too. So while I was there she decided to do a biopsy and it took her 3 tries to get a decent sample cause I had so much blood pooled up in my uterus. After the biopsy I came home and was home maybe 1/2 hr when her office called and said they already had a surgery date picked out for me. Talk about Quick, Yikes! But since she needs to see the biopsy results first, they were not able to give me any more info
I am nervous about what the results will show since cancer runs in the family, I'm nervous about the surgery and the recovery time, BUT I am very excited about not bleeding every single day after the surgery. Well, I think I have rambled enough. I want to browse more around the site.

Hi Kimberlea
Welcome to Hystersisters. I'm glad your friend pointed you in the direction of this wonderful website. Please take advantage of all this place has to offer such as the helpful hints in the pre-op pull down menu (top right of the screen where it says "more Hyster Sisters!") as well as the pre-op resources forum located on the main message board page.
Good luck with the results of your biopsy. Please let us know how that turns out. I'll be sending lots of positive thoughts your way for good results.

Hi Kimberlea,
I'm sorry that you have been having so many problems, but very glad that your friend told you about us.
I am just a little bit concerned about your quick decision to have a hyst, rather than the D & C, which may take care of your problems, with a far less invasive surgery and recovery. If possible, if I were you, I'd ask for another opinion, just to be sure. A hysterectomy is major surgery, and it's always wise to try a less-invasive procedure first.
Please let us know the results of your biopsy - I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for some good results.
's
Karen
