work and exercise

Returned to work this week without problems. Didn't have to do anything strenuous but couldn't wait to get home and lie down. I love my bed. Consequently, I haven't gotten any exercise this week. Now I'm worried that this trend will continue and I'll gain back the weight I lost. When will I feel like working and exercising?

Re: work and exercise

I started my exercise routine back long before I went back to work. My routine consist of brisk walking which I slowly eased into. By 5 and a half weeks post-op, I was back up to my 10 km or so daily. I went back to work at 9 weeks post-op and was just fine. You have to know though, that I had a great recovery with no complications and that my doctor did minimal work inside me in spite of an open abdominal surgery. For some reason, I also did not have the fatigue that plagues most ladies after this surgery. All of that can affect how you are feeling and how your body responds.

Listen to your body and treat it well by eating healthily. That will minimize your weight gain and your body will let you know when it is ready to take on work and exercise.

I hope this helps.

Re: work and exercise

Even though you are back at work, that doesn't necessarily mean your body is totally ready for it, no matter how strenuous your job is. I wouldn't worry too much. Give yourself a couple of weeks to get used to being back at work and then just gradually add in your exercise.
