3.5 weeks post hysterectomy - something 'down there' (updated)
Feeling worried as I am 3.5 post TVH, kept ovaries. Originally thought I had uterine prolapse but it appears that my cervix was lengthened or something and uterus was ok. Anyway, I am now having a similar sensation and can feel something in my vagina. Could this be swelling post-op or (please no) bladder or bowel moving down?
I think I'm going to head to the hospital and get it checked.

Re: 3.5 weeks - something 'down there'
I have been assured that it is just swelling of the posterior vaginal wall. She said everything looks good and healthy and that she didn't even see a scar (which seems odd as at this stage I haven't noticed any stitches upon wiping or anything). Fingers crossed it will pass with some rest. Thanks for your response

Re: 3.5 weeks post hysterectomy - something 'down there' (updated)
JamJah,
I also had a TVH and kept my ovaries. I had a similar sensation post op. It felt like my vagina was full and had some pressure to it. I described it as a large, dry, improperly placed tampon. It was very uncomfortable and was worse when I was standing or sitting on the toilet. Lying down was the most comfortable. Many women describe this sensation in the early weeks post op.
I think this may be a particular issue for us that had a TVH because all of the work was done vaginally. My imagination tells me that there would be a lot of manipulating and stretching and pulling down there... how else would he be able to see? Also the videos I've watched show the vagina being held open with tools while they work the uterus out. Based on that I think our tissues below sustain a bit of trauma and are likely to swell for a bit. I couldn't sit for more than 5 minutes my first 4-5 days post op... I had to eat my dinner standing up. My nether-regions were not happy with me.
The good news is that you've been to the doctor and you're healing well. Nothing has prolapsed, nor is it likely to this early post op. At times like this, gravity is not necessarily our friend. When you feel sore and aching and swelling below, it's your signal to sit down, put your feet up and rest. I found putting an ice pack (a small bag of frozen veggies will work too) down there helps tremendously with the swelling and soreness.
I had this sensation until about 6 weeks post op, and after that it occurred occasionally if I was too active.
Time to settle in, get comfy and

I agree with (((sugarandspice))). I had a vaginal hysterectomy (with laparoscopic assistance). I had the same feeling off an on for a lot of the first couple months. My doctor told me that it was just swelling and to lie down if it bothered me. It did just fade away after a time.

How weird. I have had the same sensations in my vagina. That you have described, also the other lady that described it as incorrectly placed tampon was exactly how I described it to my husband!
I have been assured that this is all to do with swelling and nerves coming back to life and lubrication coming back in to your self regulating vagina. If you've had an examination and it shows all is well, I think you need to take it on faith, that it is well. And that you're also not alone in this.
