Bladder slow to come to life 7 days post-op

Hi all,
Had TAH/BSO 3/25 -- dr reported not your avg hysterectomy because sigmoid colon "cemented" to uterus with endo., plus bladder/ureters involved in extensive endo. In hospital Tues., came home mid-day Fri. with an in/out self-catheter (at which I've become expert). Finally started peeing on own some on Sun. 3/30. More yesterday and encouraged -- about 75% on my own. Today, I have dribbled a lot and seems like I am going further the other direction -- does anyone know if this is just a natural progression of the healing process, once the bladder reawakens? My colon/bowels are slow to come back to life too but hoping for big results tonight. Overall, I'm blessed and pleased things are going as well as they are.

If anyone has any bladder experiences or suggestions, thanks.

Bladder slow to come to life 7 days post-op

Hi,
I can pee but can't hold it and don't wait until it is full either. When I mentioned to Dr. at post-op about peeing taking a few to get started he said that if it doesn't get better soon he will check for UTI. Once your bowels start working better peeing should become easier. Good luck and don't be afraid to call dr.

Bladder slow to come to life 7 days post-op

I have bladder leakage. I am three weeks post op and it started at about 12 days after surgery. My dr. told me it is part of the healing process and to just give it time. It has been a week as of Monday and I can honestly tell you that I am improving. I am no longer running to the bathroom after 30-60mins and I am sleeping pretty much through the night. Only getting up once or twice vs dozens of times. My dr. did check for a UTI though and because you had the cath in and out for awhile you may want to just have the test run to ease your mind. After all you don't want a UTI to go into stage 2 which will be very painful and effect your kidneys.

Thanks so much for that reassurance. I went "underground" for a couple days there after posting because shortly after my bladder came back to life and then started leaking, THEN my bowels came back to life and the pain has been pretty blinding until today. So, I've been dribbling and having unbelievable painful bowel movements for the past three days and it seems a little better this a.m. now. I'm hopeful and willing to just give it time -- I'm about 2.5 weeks post-op now and very blessed to have 6 wks paid time off and a quiet sweet home. Sure was worried and very good to hear from you that your improvement is gradually coming. Thanks!! I will check out the UTI situation also -- have post-op follow-up on Wed., 4/9.

Bladder slow to come to life 7 days post-op

I'm four weeks post-op today. I had a foley for a week post-op. I thought things were improving, but at two weeks post-op couldn't pee again. I have been straight cathing (in and out cath) myself every 3-4 hours for two weeks with no signs of improving. I'm seeing my uro-gyn Wed. He said if I'm not peeing on my own by then he'll "look into it further." Can't wait to see what that means.

I've also have been terribly constipated since my surgery (finally went 11 days post-op with lots of help). I thought that was getting better, but started having issues again at the same time the bladder issues started. wonder if they're connected, but can't get any answer from gyn(my surgeon) or uro-gyn.
