Fibroids/Polyps/Anemia

Dear Sisters,

I am new at this, so bear with me. My cousin suggested this website for support and education, so here goes....

I am 43 years old, married with two children born via c-section about 11 years ago. I have had D&C's in the past for heavy bleeding. In the last three months, I was diagnosed as having an enlarged fibroid. This was causing my heavy bleeding and clotting. I have been bleeding since 10/17 (my LMP), had a D&C on 11/08, and am STILL bleeding every day, though not as heavy. The gyn put me on Provera, 10 mg., each day, and iron pills for low blood.

Please tell me, is what I'm going through at this time normal? If you've had a D&C, how long before the bleeding stops? The doc also recommended a hysterectomy at some point, and I've been reluctant to do so (I started a new job in September).

I would appreciate it if anyone has been through what I am experiencing. I'm soooo sick of bleeding every day. I also will need a TAH because there is a lot of scar tissue from the cesareans.

Thanks for listening!

Fibroids/Polyps/Anemia

Hi, you've come to the right place for support! I too have super HEAVY flooding type bleeding, fibroid (5+ cm and growing and I am very small to begin with), polyps, hyperplasia, and anemia, although my bleeding occurs every 3 weeks for about 5 -7 days, not all the time like yours. I have had 2 D&C's, been on 3 months of Provera, had hysteroscpoies and ultrasounds, and the latest was an endometrial biopsy (still waiting for those results). Now my gyno is recommending a hyterectomy too. If your bleeding is not at all better after the D&Cs and the hormones, then something has to be done. I'm sure you are extremely anemic. Check with your gyno about your options but if you have fibroids, ablation is out. I facing the same decision and keep wavering back and forth on what to do. I'm seeing the doc next week and will be going in with a sheet full of questions for him to address. Hopefully then I will be able to make an educated decision for MY body. and that is the key! Every one's situation is different so only you can decide what's best for you. But these ladies here have been there, done that so they can really help you! Hang in there!!

Fibroids/Polyps/Anemia

I had a D & C and hysteroscope to try to reduce heavy bleeding (from fibroids). I stopped bleeding within a day of the D & C and then started bleeding bright red in the middle of the night on the third day. After bleeding steadily for a month, my doc finally put me on estrogen to rebuild the uterine lining. He thought that the scraping may have irritated the fibroids (kind of like knocking the skin off an old sore) so the estrogen would calm everything down. The bleeding stopped after about five days on the estrogen.

Based on the first period that followed the three weeks of estrogen therapy, I would say that the D & C did no good whatsoever.

Thank you both for writing back! I empathize with you. Since posting, my bleeding has stopped for a couple of days. The doctor has scheduled me for a TAH on 12/06 if the heavy bleeding didn't subside. I do feel a little better, but how long will this last?

Thanks for your encouragement, and I'm praying for both of you.

Liz
