TummyTuck

I was just curious about how your operation went and how long it took you to recover. I am considering a hysterectomy for a fibroid problem that I have been having for several years -- and it seems to be getting worse. I am also considering a "tummy tuck" or a bit of liposuction at the same time and wonder if you know anything about the risks associated with it. How long was your recovery and did you have your ovaries removed as well as your cervix?

tummy tuck

I am scheduled for surgery also due to fibroids and enlarged uterus. I checked into the tummy tuck and was told it was an additional 3 to 3-1/2 hours on the operating table. The plastic surgeon makes the incision, then your doctor performs the hysterectomy with the plastic surgeon then coming in to do his bit. I am just anxious enough about the hysterectomy to consider being under anesthesia for 3-1/2 hours longer. You also have to have a special dressing put on your belly and two drain plugs. And all this on top of contending with the hysterectomy, possible loss of my ovaries and surgical menopause. Nope! I will climb one mountain at a time ...thank you.

PS: Insurance companies do not cover the tummy tuck procedure either. At least, that was what I was told.

Tuck heaven

I had the tuck with the TAH/BSO. The best way to get an idea of what is best for you for body contouring, is go for the free consultation. Please only see board approved, aesthetic surgeons.
My surgery was a breeze, as was the extensive tuck; 3 hours in total. I woke, sat up the first night, walked the next day.
I'm almost 4 months along the post-op, and back to full activities since 10 weeks. I don't see the plastic surgeon till July, the GYN for a year.
GYN told me, do it all at once, one recovery time. So the two men (work together, and have known one another over 10 years) agreed on a surgical date, and teh GYN started, the plastic surgeon finished. You do have drains, you wear a binder to support the abdominal area. I'd have wanted the binder just for the hyst! LOL
I was up walking the malls in two weeks. You rest, rest, get active, rest. Follow the instructions to the letter, and you're fine. I had the whole mess removed; ovaries were donated to the U of W for research, cervix gone so no problems of cancer, uterus gone; just the vagina left.
Wish I'd done it years ago.
The risks are usually blood clots, that was the only thing they stressed. Getting up and walking was the best cure for this. Best idea is go to the surgeon's office and get the evaluation; some places even allow payment plans! Best of luck, feel free to e-mail me! Hugs!!
