Swimming afterward
Hi all,
I have a very large fibriod (large grapefruit / cantalope size) and have reached the end of options other than TAH. I have come to terms (pretty much) that I have to do this. I trust my doctor very much and know that he works very hard to avoid unnecessary hysterectomys.
I am waiting to hear when this will be booked and he warned me that it might take up to 3 months.hopefully I will get in there soon, but it could be the middle of June!
I feel like my whole life is on hold until I get this done. We have a new cottage and I have pictured myself spending a large of my recovery up there, but being there in the middle of summer and not being able to go into the lake would be murder. Does anyone know how soon I would be allowed to swim (or float around) in a lake?

It will vary from doctor to doctor but generally speaking you wouldn't be allowed to be immersed in water (bath or swimming) until your after getting clearance from your doctor at your 6 week checkup.
On the other hand, recovering at a cottage by a lake sounds heavenly even without swimming!

swimming
hello, I had a tah with also the removal of one ovary on Jan 12, 2004. At five weeks post op my gyn cleared me to go in the pool. she told me after 5 to 6 weeks and also if you have stopped bleeding or spotting. Its hard to say because every doc has their own ideas on limitations. i know that alot of people comment their docs usually let them in a pool, or a lake as long as your incision is healed and your not spotting. i would let your gyn know you are concerned and want to go in the lake as soon as you feel up to it. good luck, god bless, baily
