pros and cons of keeping your cervix?

I decided to keep mine. I read and researched and what I learned is:
pros~can retain better pelvic floor support. Sex can be more pleasurable. Also avoids some of the risk of injuring the nearby ureters, bladder, intestines, and reduced blood loss. No sutures are left near or inside the vagina. And also a faster recovery and possibly less discomfort when recovering. If removed, possibly a shorter vagina than before surgery.
cons~still have to have yearly pap smears to check for cervical cancer. I have always had normal paps, this helped me decide to keep it. Also, you can have little mini-periods! Did you know the cervix is part of the uterus? I didn't until after I started researching, got some good gynecology books from the library. Easier surgery for the doctor if you keep the cervix, mine was honest and even told me this!

pros and cons of keeping your cervix?

For: Angorast2

Thanks for sharing that cervix information. And a thanks to Kf2384 for asking for the information.

To help prevent a mini-period...my Dr. cauterized my cervix during my hyst. If a Hyster Sister keeps one or both ovaries and the cervix, there can be a chance of a mini-period in post-op. The cervix cauterization I had helped to prevent a mini-period. I have not had one in post-op. You might ask your Dr. about it.

Best wishes~

Mary
