Post surgery pain

Hi all,

I am scheduled for a TAH with ovaries removal. Keeping in mind that each one of us reacts differently to surgery, could you please tell me for ladies who went through the same kind of surgery, where pain was located and its intensity. I will be grateful.

Thanks a bunch

Post surgery pain

You're so right, everyone is different and has different tolerances to pain. After surgery, I wouldn't describe what I felt as pain, discomfort, yes. If I had to rate it on the pain scale of 1-10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest amount of pain I would say possibly 3. Sneezing, etc caused the most discomfort and it was on the inside. Walking, stairs, etc were no problem for me, after I got over the fogginess of the anesthesia.

But, I became constipated about 10 days after surgery, and I also had a nasty little hemorrhoid that decided to rear its ugly head at the same time, THAT was PAIN, about a 15 on the scale, and the worst part of the whole experience. Once the bowel was cleared everything got back to normal.

The waiting and wondering what it was going to be like was the worst part!

Best wishes!

Post surgery pain

Everyone is very different regarding intensity of pain. For me it was more like lower abdominal ache. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst, I was at 5 for the first 2 days post-op...then gradually progressed down to nothing. Just take it easy after surgery and listen to your body. You are the advocate for you regarding your health and pain control. If it hurts...speak up and get pain meds. There is nothing silly or wimpy about it.
Good luck to you at the castle and see you on the post op board soon!
