white blood cell abnormalities

Hi
I'm hoping maybe one of my sisters can shine a light on a situation I am looking at. Please know that I am working w a hematologist and tests are currently being run. I'm just nervous and impatient. That said I am 6 mo post-op. Hysterectomy was due to anemia. I used daVinci, removed cervix/uterus/ovaries and have bladder sling. I am not on HRT

When I went back to my dr for follow-up she reported that my anemia seems under control but my white blood cells are off. It gets really confusing. Normal range is between 4. and 10. (some places use thousandths but first numbers are the same). I've worked with this dr for 5 years now so she knows my case well. For all of the five years, regardless of treatment, I've run at 4.5. I've had 2 cbcs since surgery and all was well with 4.5. Now I am at 1.3 (1.4 is cutoff for requires intervention). Dr concern is because I have never decreased regarding all my previous treatments. More blood tests ordered.

Weirder, on my patient portal info the reason for additional blood work was listed as lymphocytosis, which is an increase in wbc. I have learned that there are 5 different types of wbc so one could go up while one goes down. I don't understand why.

I am very healthy. My entire family has been sick and I've been fine. I am asymptomatic tho I am beginning to get headaches and I have a rash/discoloration over my hips when they get hot - like after a shower. They are short lived, fade on their own, and I've had them for awhile. I figured dry skin and irritation as they follow my underwear line. Today I am feeling a little tight in my throat but it is mild and mostly not there. Virus is a possibility.

Has anyone had (or know someone who had) symptoms like this? I am following up with my doctor but wondering what kind of questions to ask, if I should push the issue, anything really. The drop to 1.3 makes me uncomfortable. It happened in 2 months.

Thank you to all my sisters for being a place that I can bring my silly nervous (impatient) self.

Amy

Re: white blood cell abnormalities

There are different types o white blood cells. Some signal inflammation some bacterial infections, others allergy, so it is possible that you have a mild infection that you don't even feel but your body is taking care of it. That would cause a rise in WBC. I am not sure what would cause a drop like that
