Castle questions
Hello Sisters,
I started putting some things into my case this morning - nighties, my new slippers, etc.. I was wondering, when you left the castle, did you wear your day clothes or night clothes?
Cos my hubby can't take time off, I'm getting a taxi from the castle to my mum's when I leave the Castle - I plan to ask for a female driver too, hope there will be one about the place.
I think I'm getting fixated on clothes so I don't think about all the other stuff!
I was so sure I wouldn't get all uptight about this, but I'm getting really edgy now. To top it all off, I am always prepared for 'the call' ...sorry we have to reschedule rah rah rah ..... and the fact that it is the middle of winter here, I've been trying to catch a cold for the last three weeks to get it over with, but no such luck.
I did talk it over with the nurse at the hospital, about what happens if I get a cold just before surgery - I don't get chest colds so even if I do get a cold, I hope the anaesthetist can make the appropriate things happen.
I cut my toenails this morning after my shower, and when I was all bent over I got this huge protesting pain from my super-size uterus, I think I squished a fibroid! I also tugged the hairs out of my legs with my epilady.
Wow, I feel like I'm just raving on here. Going out soon to see Mum - she'll calm me down.

Castle questions
I had my pre-op today, Kathy. She said even if someone is taking a taxi home they should have someone with them. You won't be able to carry your stuff. You will need help in and out of the car. Is there anyone at all who can pick you up or go in the taxi with you?
If you are comfortable, I see nothing wrong with wearing pyjamas to go home. That's probably what I will do. Good luck!

Hi Kathy,
I agree with Chende... you are probably going to want your mom or someone with you in the cab ride home. You are going to need some TLC.
As for the clothing thing... I was really absorbed over it, too. I used to work at the hospital where I'm having my procedure. My vanity just won't let me go in and out of there looking like a train wreck. I got a cute pair of lightweight sweats with a very loose draw string waist... I'm wearing them both to and from the hospital since I'm only there overnight.
Now... how do I get around the "no make-up" rule... ??? (and don't tell me I won't care... call it vanity or self-consciousness... I am really going to wish I could wear mascara!!!)

I wore a dress and sandles. A big tent type of dress. Could just pull it on over my head and didn't have to stand up. Skipped some of the undies too on the way home. Was very GLAD to have DH with me. When you are ready to go home you won't want to wait around so having someone to keep you company will help.
Try not to worry it will be hard but it is amazing how the body heals!

Castle questions
I wore the same dress to the Castle and home again. I changed out of my street clothes within minutes of arriving at the castle, so it was still clean. I took along nightie, robe, slippers, etc. but decided to wear hospital gown the whole time. They even gave me a robe to wear. I did use my slippers and a cardigan type sweatshirt, as I am always cold, but that's really it for clothes.
And I agree with others, you'll probably need someone to ride home with you to carry stuff and help you in/out of car. Don't forget tummy pillow to put under seat belt if you are havin abdominal incision!

Castle questions
Thanks for all the advice, Sisters, I greatly appreciate it. My mother has offered to come and pick me up in the taxi, but she is nearly 83, bless her...
Here the taxi drivers are very helpful cos they get rated on service delivery by their company, they get out and open doors and help with luggage etc.
But as the taxi pulls up at the main door of the Castle, the hospital staff can help me in, and Mum will be at the other end to help me out . I'll phone her from the taxi and say 'we are turning into the street now - time to come down to the gate'...
So, hopefully it will all work out. The other thing is, that unlike a lot of other sisters, I'll have been in the castle 5 days (well, that is the estimate anyway) so I may not be as incapacitated as I would be if it was 3 days.
As for clothes ... hmm... still pondering on that one...thanks for the tummy pillow tip, emmlg727 ! I hadn't thought of doing that, I had just wondered what to do about the seatbelt .

I also wore a big tent dress to and from hospital. IMHO, best to pack the least you can. Wore hospital gown the only night I was in there, but when I showered next morning, put on my Karen Neuberg Jammies (my big splurge before surgery). My own robe and soft comfy slipper/socks were a big plus, too, when walking the hallways.
Hope all goes well with you.

Hi,
I wore a hippy-type skirt, long and full with an elastic waist. The elastic bit is very important, as most likely you will be swollen.
It was comfy and looked nice too. And disguised the belly.
You could dye your eyelashes before surgery, that is almost as good as mascara. And tinted lip balm is good for avoiding the totally anaemic look without makeup.
