Scared:(

Ok, this is my story, I'm less than a week away from surgery and my husband and I have recently seperated. I have had several surgeries in our 20 years together so this will be the first without him. I have alot of anxiety before surgeries usually and although I'm almost glad and will be relieved to finally be doing my LAH, I'm terrified. I've always heard this is a major surgery and though I have had laproscopic proceedures before, I'm just concerned about the after affects. The plan is at this time to leave one or both of my ovaries depending on their condition. I'm an emotional mess at time right now given my situation with DH, this is only going to compound things I'm afriad, but DO NOT want to put this off. Any words of wisdom out there?

Re: Scared:(

well first I would say...get a copy of the "worried womans guide to a happy hysterectomy"...it was the book that led me to this site...it is very helpful. Secondly, arrange to have help when you get home from the hospital, I was released on Wed, had help through Friday evening...wishing I would have had help thru Sunday evening...I am single, so I can tell you from experience, it is not fun to go through this alone, but it is possible....stock up on soup, pudding and other soft food you like....lots of water, I enjoyed squeezing lime juce (from the fake plastic limes) in my water...be ready to sleep a great deal...and just take small walks....

You can do this....you are not alone....all our hystersisters are here for you...trust me...I made it so can you....

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers

Re: Scared:(

I would suggest getting help for about the first 4 days or so. The 4th day is when i stopped my pain meds and did better after that. This site is incredible. You will never be alone in this!
You will do great!
