Hysterectomy and tummy tuck??

I just found out that I need a hysterectomy for endometrial hyperlasia. I've been very depressed as I am only 36 and had hoped for children someday but I am looking for a silver lining! My mother suggested asking the doctor to do a tummy tuck while he was there anyway. I am too embarrassed to ask my doctor. I have heard of a few women who claim to have had this done but I don't know if their gyn/ob did it or if I would need a plastic surgeon also.

Has anyone had their surgeon perform a tummy tuck while he was doing the hysterectomy?

Hysterectomy and tummy tuck??

Hi smcg,

I think it's great that you are looking for the silver lining in having this surgery. I did not have a tummy tuck (just didn't think of it, darn it!) but I've read posts here from ladies who did have one done at the same time as their hyst. I don't know if it was done by their gyn or another surgeon. Maybe someone else will be along who has had this done.

You might want to post this question on the Post Op forum since most all the ladies there have had their surgery.

Meanwhile, you could always call your gyn's office and talk to one of the nurses. They can be really helpful and you know that you aren't the first person who has ever asked about this. They will know if your gyn does tummy tucks, or if you need another surgeon for this. Best of luck!

Hysterectomy and tummy tuck??

Good idea! I asked my gyn for a tummy tuck, too, but she said it wasn't possible. Hmmmmm. Maybe it can work for some patients and not for others. Or maybe my doctor didn't want to fiddle with it. Who knows.

Worth asking! Might as well get something good out of it.

Hysterectomy and tummy tuck??

I had a tummy tuck at the same time, but you will need a plastic surgeon as well. The insurance does not cover the tummy tuck though. I am 6 months post and don't regret the decision one bit. They were only going to cut me open once My dr was very supportive of my decision and even recommended a plastic surgeon to me. You would need to go to plastic surgeon and they would have to coordinate their schedules.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. Also, do a search on tummy tuck and you will get a lot of useful information. Best wishes on your decision and I hope this helps.
