urine flow consistancy problems?

Ok, this is a weird one but I hope someone can help. My surgery was Wednesday the 5th. I was able to pee right away once the catheter came out but it's kinda irregular.

Sometimes it's a nice, steady stream of urine.

Other times, it's like turning a faucet on and slowly off. Dribble, dribble, off. Repeat the entire time. It can take forever to finish when it's like this!

When it's not a nice, steady stream I have no conscious control of it. It's not like I'm choosing to have it be so stop-and-go. And any efforts to "push" or try to make it more steady do nothing. No burning, no pain, nice clean urine without blood.

Is this normal? I've read there can be some irritation to the bladder from the cath but this is intermittent and we're 5 days post op now.

It's just hard because I don't really have a lot of sensation in my bladder yet. I don't have a lot of feelings of "you need to pee" so maybe it's not as smooth when it's not full? I don't know.

Any help appreciated.

Re: urine flow consistancy problems?

I'm 3 weeks post op and that facet feeling is just starting to stop for me. The way my doctor put it was our poor bladders have been beat up and shifted from its nice comfortable home. She's just making her displeasure known. She will settle back down.

Re: urine flow consistancy problems?

I am six months post-op, with multiple repairs and bladder sling. I still am not "normal". I guess this is my new normal. Sometimes I pee just like a real woman, then other times, I wait and pee in a shallow stream and then dribble. Some nights, I get up once, other nights 3 times. I have no pain, and everything else is working fine. I really believe it takes a long time for the bladder to be normal again. It took mine 60 years to get this way (prolapse), so I don't feel 6 months is too bad in the sceme of things. You ladies are still very early in your recoveries. Hang in there~it really will get back to normal. Hope everyone heals well!
