When did you start getting out and about?
As in going to church and out to eat with family? Also when did you start doing things in the house like dishes but not lifting heavy pans just washing a couple things in the sink while others load the dishwasher? And riding in the car to just go with family to store but not getting out? I did assist with dinner last week one evening and after my stomach was so sore and I was exhausted and I barely did anything.
I am just confused as to what I should or shouldn't be doing. And of course am afraid of doing too much and pulling something. So basically I sit with my feet up in the living room or rest in bed besides making myself something very light for breakfast and lunch. It will be 3 weeks since my TAH.
The only place that I have been is to the doctor to have staples out and that was 10 days ago.I got home from the hospital on March 2nd,went to the doctor on March 9th and been home since. I haven't even been outside. Too scared to help with dishes or anything. I did coach my daughter as she loaded the washer but didn't lift anything just helped her as she sorted them and loaded it. My hubby and kids are helping some with house but it is getting bad and I am just letting it go but wonder if I can do a couple things like hand wash some dishes, wipe counters and table.
I hadn't been to church and want to go in the morning but wonder if I am ready to sit straight up for 2 hours or so.Just by walking around the house makes me feel like I ran a mile and am so tired.
Thanks for any and all advice and opinions.

Re: When did you start getting out and about?
I was home on Saturday from hospital and went out for a drive Monday (not me someone else drove, i can't for a week) and we stopped for dinner. Next day I went for drive again. Day after I went to the grocery store. I had to get out I was getting stir crazy. My gyno told me that if when I got home, I wanted to walk around the block I could. Walking is fine, just not too fast. It's been three weeks for you? I think it's time you venture out. Sit on your backsteps or have someone drive you around. Get your bearings again in the world. You will feel much better each day you do something more.
Trust me my gyn was very on board with getting out, just don't over do it. That's the ticket, don't overdo.

Re: When did you start getting out and about?
At 2 weeks I perked up but was exhausted after every thing I did. Walking through Target was like running a marathon. 3 weeks post op I was able to go to the movies and move much better and easier.! I am 6 weeks and 1 day post op and still get tired easily.. but feel great. You just have to listen to your body. This last week I have made dinner every night, and worked out on my wii fit..... AT 3 and 4 weeks I thought I was never going to feel better!!!! Very frustrating. (no pain, just exhaustion) 5 weeks post op we went on a 5 day cruise...I wanted to cancel it the week before we went.. SO glad I didnt!!! Hang in there.... start slowly- and again- listen to your body!!

Re: When did you start getting out and about?
I have been doing a little bit around the house already, being a single mom and alone during the day I could not sit around and look at all that needed to be done, my fault yes I know I am stubborn, I do not do heavy lifting, driving or venture out anywhere yet, my surgery (TAH) was only 8 days ago. I do dishes by hand, sweep a bit, the laundry I sort and my son helps with that part. I cook light meals etc, I do nap alot still and make myself walk around the house a bit. I am venturing to the market later with my sis and see how that goes. Everyone is different so don't beat yourself up on your recovery, you do what you can and when you feel strong enough to do more you will. ((Hugs))

Re: When did you start getting out and about?
I am 2 1/2 wks post op. I stood at the sink and washed a few water bottles 3 days post op. I was released to drive earlier this week which was nice. Went to Sonic yesterday and to visit the inlays, then went and picked up a pizza last night for dinner. You can help unload the dishwasher. I stood at hbd stove and made macaroni and cheese the other night and put chicken nuggets in the oven. You will feel better once you start doing things. If you aren't comfortable driving have your hubby take you for a drive and get some ice cream or something.

Re: When did you start getting out and about?
I think getting some activity in would be good for building up your stamina and energy level. Personally I would focus on walking and let your family clean, particularly since so many
I did nothing but lie around and walk to the bathroom for the first couple of weeks. However, my gynos (regular and onco) are very pro-walking. I'm a little over 4 weeks post-op. I went out for a walk for the first time about 2.5 weeks in. I meant to only go around the block but ended up walking almost a mile in the neighborhood. Afterwards I came home and slept for 2 hours. Now I walk about a mile and a half every day and no long feel the need to nap, though I always lie down afterwards. I feel the incision while I'm walking, but it doesn't hurt.
My first dinner excursion was last week. Sitting is definitely my weak point, though I think it's just incision paranoia at this point. That was also my first post-op alcohol. A beer has never tasted so good.
I live alone, so I've been cooking. I started with microwaving Amy's frozen dinners and now I've advanced to cooking that involves ingredients. I don't find standing to be difficult. I've also washed dishes, but no housework beyond taking out the trash.
Anyway, from my experience, getting out of the house and walking around makes a big difference. Just pay attention to your body and don't overdo it.

Re: When did you start getting out and about?
I was going to add that I only have 2 weeks off work than part time 2 weeks so I don't have the luxury of staying home that long, I wish I did! But because of that I've been trying to walk and trying to go for rides so I'm not out of it when I have to go back. The weather here is nice so I hope to go for a walk today.
Someone I know said walking every day after surgery HEALED her so much faster than most women. So, do what you can I think, and rest afterwards. I think it does wonders for your sanity to feel like you can do some things again. Happy healing!

Re: When did you start getting out and about?
I had my LTH last Friday & went to walk around at Walmart for about 30 minutes this past Friday. I was ready to go home. Suprised I was worn out. Every muscle in my body was sore last night. I think it is good to get out just don't under estimate how much it may wear you out. It will be short excursions for me for awhile.
