Poll: How much did your hysterectomy cost in the United States?

Before insurance, over $30k...I will pay a little over $5k out of pocket. I also had tvt & anterior repair.

Hospital charge was around $23000 but my insurance only allowed them to charge $8400. I work for hospital and get a 60% discount and insurance pays 85% of what is left. Not sure of docs fee but expecting to pay around $1000 when all said and done.

I have an HSA and paid out of pocket about $2,500 which in my mind is not bad especially when looking at the cost without insurance. Yikes!! Anything OOP now will just be 10% of the cost since the deductible has been satisfied.

Thankfully I didn't have to pay anything for my surgery because Medicare covered it all.

Cost of medical care has gone crazy! My "simple" D&C and hysteroscopy for a uterine fibroid removal about the size of an inch squared ( it was embedded pretty good so took a little over 2 hours in an out patient setting), was just under $17,000.00 after all said and done from the diagnostic Dr visit ($50.00 co pay) Trans-vaginal CT($1783.00), to surgeon($1300.00), hospital charges ( $13,333.10), anesthesia ($760.00) and all the trimmings total. All said I sure feel a lot better now (Just 3 weeks out) with the exception of my lighter bank account. My out of pocket after insurance for it all will be about $2000.00

So far this has cost me out of pocket nearly$3000. My insurance had covered 5 grand, but that's just the knock me out dr the surgen himself. I'm afraid to get the bill for the hospital lol. But worth every dime!! (And my dr is a great one so that helps).

Great question! According to the EOBs pre-insurance cost was $35-40,000 from all providers. After insurance discounts, applying coinsurance, etc., our out of pocket expense was near $4,000. We've always had savings to cover any sort of unexpected expenses.

I can"t recall the actual surgery costs, but starting in June with a $400 ER bill, internal and external ultrasounds, endometrial biopsy, pap, STI testing, multiple lab draws, gp visits for pre-op physical, TVH (kept ovaries), surgeon with partner assisting, anesthesiologist with assistant, various OR personnel, four day three night stay, total is $39,000 and change. Out of pocket is $2000 of $6000 deductible. Oh, plus seven weeks without pay for leave. The deductible and unpaid leave are a struggle, but it never entered my mind to delay. I think I'll recover that $ before Jan 1 on what I save on tampons and pads, LOL!!!

The claim for my surgery was sent in to my insurance company, $92,400! How insane is that?

The TAH surgery was preapproved, but then I ended up needing it on an emergency basis on a Sunday, so I'm not sure if that hiked up the price. My annual out of pocket max is just over $2000 but I've heard horror stories about claims of out of network pieces of bills.

I'm going to try not to think about it until and unless I actually see a bill.

I am nervous about Medicare paying for my surgery… but you said they paid for it all?
