Hospital bill - Oh my!!

Most co-insurance is an 80/20, after deductible has been met. This means you pay your deductible plus 20% of what insurance did not pay. My out of pocket is $3500. Meaning, I can pay (after deductible) up to $3500 that the 20% covers on my part. Insurance companies do not pay the full $40,000. They have a limit as to what is charged. That is when the DR's office "drop's" the amount owed. You will pay 20% of what the insurance is charged. Not 20% of the $40,000. But, you could end up w/ still having to pay your deductible plus $3500. I will end up with around $2000 out of pocket on my part.
The only reason I know this, I am a licensed health insurance agent and dealt w/ this a lot.

Hospital bill - Oh my!!

I just got the bill for my july myomectomy (outpatient procedure). It was 7000, of which insurance paid 4500, wrote off 2000, and I pay 500. So I asked when I could expect the hysterectomy bill and they told me it could be as long as 2 years!

I am just truly grateful for my insurance. There definitely are people who are not eligible for public health and have no insurance--I know a lady in that situation who has been told she needs a hysterectomy for years and now is anemic. And she's not the only one.
That's why the single biggest cause of bankruptcies in this country is unpaid medical bills...

Ladies as I stated in an early post I had rec'd my bill and at that point it was almost 20,000. I owe nothing from the surgery. I have really good insurance. I work for our local school district and unfortunately our insurance will be changing so this is why I chose to have this done now, I knew if I waited I wouldn't be able to afford it.

I hope everyone has a good day!
We are expecting another 8-10 inches of snow again tonight into tomorrow. Another day off for the kids!
