No uterus keep ovaries for Adenomyosis?

Hi All
So on tuesday after a sonic ultrasound dr diagnosed Adenomyosis and found a fibroid.
I am now thinking ok if i do go ahead and get a hysterectomy but leave my ovaries alone then will they still cramp up and cause me pain?
Also how do I know it is Adenomyosis for sure? Through an MRI ?

Hi Bouncy

I do not have experience with adenomyosis, so I cannot answer your questions. Here is an article that may provide some information:
Endometriosis vs. Adenomyosis.

Be sure to read the related articles.

Here also is information on keeping your ovaries.

We do have lots of ladies on this. Hopefully ones with experience with adenomyosis will see this post and respond.

My dr. diagnosed adenomyosis after a Doppler ultrasound. It showed "tracks"/abnormalities in the uterine wall.

Our plan was to just remove my uterus and tubes but keep my ovaries, so I wouldn't have the issues with hormones. However, when she got in there during the surgery, she had to remove both ovaries because I had so much endometriosis and a cyst.

I am not sure what the cramping would be like with just the ovaries but you wouldn't have to worry about instant menopause.

No uterus keep ovaries for Adenomyosis?

Hi Robinlynr
Thank you for the info.
I have a feeling either both or one ovary is gone done and will have to go.
Isnt there a way the drs can find out before operating?
I hate this suspense next time i see my dr is Jan 4.
As for instant menopause, did that happen to you?
If so how do you feel?
Hugs

I think they can't really tell the extent of the endo until they get in there. I did know I had a cyst on one and I did know one of my ovaries was not positioned where it was supposed to be. So, I wasn't surprised. My dr said that if she had left the ovaries she knew I'd be back in 6 months to have them out. SoI am actually very happy to know that once I am healed, I will feel better than I have in a long time. I can't tell a lot yet about the menopause because I am taking Prozac, which had been for my severe pms. It is actually supposed to help with hot flashes and of course moods, so I'm ok. My 2-week checkup is Friday, so we will talk about taking estrogen then.

Re: No uterus keep ovaries for Adenomyosis?

I see thank you very much.
I am so scared of anxiety and panic attacks as i am prone to getting those.
I just had too many things happen not great wonderful things and all at the same time that i am freaked out by change. Anyhow thank you so much once again. I wish you the best recovery possible. God bless and speedy recovery to you God willing.
Many Hugs.

Re: No uterus keep ovaries for Adenomyosis?

I actually found out about my adenomyosis AFTER surgery. It wasn't found by my previous doctor that did my ablation and then we moved, so this new doctor just scheduled me for hysterectomy since the ablation didn't work.

I did keep my ovaries but everything else is gone.

I feel great. I think keeping your ovaries is awesome. I'm only 39 and I didn't want to go thru an early menopause. So I'm glad I got to keep mine!
