dumb question !

Okay I know this is dumb but I've seriously never seen it asked or answered before. How long will it be before I can laugh comfortably again... I never realized that my life revolved around comedy and laughter until now...

When I laugh my stomach tenses and there is a painful burning and it feels like my guts are going to fall out onto the floor. It's going to be over soon, right ???
I'm 6 days post op with abdominal incision, btw.

I'm 2 weeks post op and it is much easier to laugh now. My poor family--they see me grab my middle and lean over to have a good belly laugh...it probably looks more like I'm going to puke! Just know that it gets easier every day, and be happy that we have reason to laugh.

Hi sister, you and I had surgery the same day (tah here also). I made the mistake of renting comedies this weekend, 3 in fact. Boy what a mistake that was! My stomach hurt all weekend long!
I went into the OR with the beginning of a cold. Now I have sinus infection and post nasal drip that is making me cough my head off. I can't stand it. My stomach really hurts so I know what you are talking about.
I have been using my pillow, that's pretty much all I think we can do for the time being.

Dear Canadian Kim:
Here I am at 3 weeks and I still can't let myself laugh. It's hard to hold back, especially watching Frasier! I have also developed the world's wimpiest cough. I start out with a light "practice" cough to see how tender the swelly-belly feels, and then I work up to the necessary intensity. My husband looks at me as if I'm crazy.

(Sing it girls! To the tune of Where, oh where has my little dog gone...)
When-oh when- will my cough be the same?
When-oh when- will I laugh?
With my belly huge and my scar that's rouge,
oh -when can I take a bath?

My ds's funny friend visited me in the hosp. I had to kick him out. He of course was in my house all the time asfterwards. I kept kicking him out. I think it was about 4 weeks when I noticed I wasnt really hanging onto my belly when I laughed. Up until that point I was miserable because I laugh a lot. Had never thought about it before surgery just because I had never had surgery before. What a surprise for me to not be able to laugh.I had to change the way I laughed too!

It was almost a week ago that I posted that and I'm much better and can laugh lying on my side clutching my gut and it's not TOO painful usually ...

My funny friend came over and we were comparing surgery scars and I was lying on my back when she made a disparaging (yet funny...) remark about her gyn and I almost DIED it hurt so bad.

I suck on halls - I don't cough !! I had one half hearted little sneeze - thought my guts were going to fall out ! (I was prepared for that one though ! Not like the laugh !)
