Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 19-Jun 25,2017

So since I'm trying to not rely on my Vicodin as much I've discovered that it burns when I pee and the cramping has been atrocious today. No longer seeing blood on a pantyliner just a tinge when I pat dry. I do however have some discharge that looks a little yellow at times. I finally decided to see what was causing so much burning down there and pain. I have two very raw spots right on the outside bottom folds of my labia. I'm thinking it's from the catheter maybe? Anyone else experience this? I'm kinda afraid to call the doctor cuz he might make me come in and at this point I'm not sure I can handle him touching anything down there.

I'll say a prayer for you and your recovery, especially with the pain management tonight. A wedge pillow has helped me with getting out of bed and lots of smaller ones for support. Keep us informed of how you're doing!

Removed one of my two uterus and tubes (right tube had grown back, but not fully), did not remove ovary, found severe endometriosis was able to remove some of it. A lot on my rectum have to have colonoscopy and probable second surgery for that.

Doctor said I will eventually need to remove other uterus because of the endometriosis. It was apparently very, very severe.

I am at home now struggling with the pain. No pain meds because of my liver disease.

(37 years old / LAVH with uterus and tubes removed / had multiple fibroids / 2 previous cesarean deliveries)

Hello,
My LAVH was performed on June 20. This is day two of my recovery. It was a trying experience as the nursing staff figured out which pain meds worked for me. I had a bit of a crying spell when the pain became unbearable and they had to increase my IV dosage. Unfortunately, the intense pain meds have left me with some crazy side effects (intense itching and headache). After taking some Benedryl the itching subsided. I was also given IV antibiotics and Heparin (blood thinner) shots in the side of my tummy.

My amazing nurses and CNT were so attentive. They shared their own hysterectomy stories and helped me feel so much better. Even though I didn't think I was ready, they had me up walking not long after my catheter was removed (the removal hurt). Each time I walked, it got a tiny bit easier. Slow and steady is the way!! I finally felt good enough to stand in the shower for a very brief bath with the help of my husband to support me.

Now that I'm home, I'm taking more steps around the house. I sat on the porch and watched the rain and enjoyed the stillness of my house while my kids are away with their grandmother. My dear friend brought over soft foods since I'm not quite ready for a hearty meal (yogurt, soup, fruit). I passed gas for the first time since surgery and let me tell you, it HURT LIKE HELL as the gas moved around my belly! I'm thankful to know that my intestines are working as they should, but I also have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and even small gas bubbles are a big deal in my fickle tummy!

I'm having a lot of throat soreness from the breathing tube during surgery. It really hurts my throat and tummy when I cough deeply. After coughing up some bloody phlegm in the hospital, I don't want to take any chances with blood clots in my lungs! I'm doing the breathing exercises and using my albuterol inhaler for help.

My doctor prescribed Miralax, Oxycodone w/Aspirin, and coated aspirin for use at home. I'm trying not to take the strong meds too often, but at times it's definitely necessary. I'm resting when needed and trying to drink as much water as I can. No BM yet. After that, I'm sure I'll be feeling even better.

Best of luck to all of you as we go on this journey together.
Crystal

When do you all have a check up with your doctor?

My discharge paperwork said to call to make an appointment for 2 weeks. My husband called and the surgeon said he'd see me in a month . Surgery was June 19, follow up appt is July 18.

Seems far off but I suppose I would know if something was wrong.

Usually it's a 6 week follow up, or 2 weeks if you're not getting better or something new has come up. My doctor told me I could come in at 2 weeks if I needed to or I could go in at 6 weeks.

My Dr set me up with a 2 wk checkup and 4 wk checkup. I don't have any medical issues or reasons why I would need earlier check ups. Guess it's just the Dr and what they prefer.

We scheduled my post op the day we scheduled surgery because my doctor's schedule tends to book out pretty far. I'm going next week June 29
