My new worry is about being upside down during daVinci hysterectomy surgery

I'm scheduled for a DvH this Wed and have a new worry--being upside down for the surgery, with all my innards being shoved up into my torso from gravity so the robot and surgeon can get to the organs, all the blood rushing to my head for all the hours that I am "under." Please share some kind and positive thoughts and encouragement because I'm feeling like I'm losing my mind. It's 3:15 in the wee hours and I can't sleep for all the stuff going through my mind.

Re: My new worry is about being upside down during daVinci hysterectomy surgery

Don't worry. I had the DaVinci surgery. I was in the hospital for one day and out the next day. The pain was so minimal that all I took was 600mg of Tylenol. The surgery was only a hour and a half (would have been less but I had scar tissue from a previous fibroid operation). I drove around town the day after the surgery, albeit I had to be careful going over bumps in the road - then I could feel the results of the surgery. In addition, if you have been diagnosed with cancer, the surgeon knows the protocols with regards to morcellation and how to handle the tissue.

The DaVinci surgery was awesome.

No problem with being upside down. I was worried about it too and my back as I had surgery about 2 years ago. They said I did great and no issues yet with my back.

Re: My new worry is about being upside down during daVinci hysterectomy surgery

I was worried too since I have degenerative joint disease in spine and neck (mild) and headaches which I had been seeing a chiro for. I told the anesthesiologist my concerns. I surprising have not had neck issues at all and my back doesn't hurt any worse than before. And any headaches have been really mild.

My legs on the other hand...ouch. Not excruciating but not pleasant.

It is definitely a weird position. But you'll be fine.

Re: My new worry is about being upside down during daVinci hysterectomy surgery

I was under and inverted for 6 hours for my surgery. I was just very swollen in my face afterward and had minor neck pain. The swelling went down before I went home that same day and all other aches related to that are totally gone now. Our bodies have an amazing ability to bounce back. I also have no internal pain, just pain across my upper mid section and around my ribs and it's very manageable. Hope that helps!

Oh yea. Forgot about the face swelling. Didn't hurt. But once I caught my reflection I exclaimed to the RN "holy cow!!! Do you see my face???" As if she knew what I looked like before lol.

I only knew something was wrong with my face by the way hubby and mom looked at me when they entered my room. Lol I did see it in the bathroom later and yea... I looked like a helium balloon version of myself.

Oh goodness, I had no idea about my face swelling.... thanks for the responses. Continued happy stories are much appreciated, as I still feel I am losing my mind.

Re: My new worry is about being upside down during daVinci hysterectomy surgery

The nurse told me after I was in my room that my face was pretty red at one point because I was head down so long. I am fine though.

Visualize the success. Breathe, visualize the success. Don't think of anything else except a successful outcome.
