Spotting starting 4th week
Hi ladies:
I'm not sure if this is a normal thing or if I just did too much too soon. My TAH (kept ovaries, lost cervix) was on Feb 10th. Up till this past weekend I really hadn't done to much, left the house once or twice. This weekend however, I went food shopping (didn't carry anything)on Friday, more shopping on Saturday. While I am not doing the driving, I did a lot of walking and going up and down stairs. On Sunday I wasn't feeling to great, felt a bit swollen and had small sharp pains on the left side where my ovaries are. Later in the evening when I went to the bathroom I saw spotting (red in color) it was the same color it would be if I got my period. My husband also mentioned I have a metalic smell to my breath, which I used to get around the time of my period (I think it ties in with the anemia). I put a call into the doctor just to be sure. What I don't understand is how does one bleed when you don't have a uterus or cervix? Do you think I pulled a stitch or something? Any help in the matter would be appreciated.
Thanks

Spotting starting 4th week
Hi, I had my hysterectomy (took cervix, tubes and ovaries) on 2/14. I did a bit more last Wednesday (movie, lunch (both sitting) and a short walk)took it easy on Thursday and that evening I started spotting. I saw my doctor on Friday and she confirmed what she told me Thursday night that sometimes there is a pooling of blood in the pelvic area after a major surgery and that it is either absorbed or is passed through the vagina. I took it easy on Friday and Saturday I went to see my horse and apparently stood up too long. At about 7pm I started to pass blood again like a period and by 8 went through a couple of pads and passed a couple of very large sized clots (like in my regular periods). I got very dehydrated and passed out, went to the hospital emergency and they checked me out and told me that it was just old blood, that my blood count was better than it was when I left the hospital after surgery; the doctor checked me out very gently and told me that it was just a pooling of old blood even though it looked like a regular period.
I have taken it easy since then (today is Monday afternoon)and am going in for a complete blood count, seeing my doctor Weds or Thurs. I hope this helps you out and if anyone has anything else to input on this point, insight is greatly appreciated.

Spotting starting 4th week
Thank you so much for that information. I'm not bleeding as much as you were, but it is like I'm having a very light period. I am also small dizzy spells, the type you get when your blood count is low. The last time I was having these type of spells I ended up in the hospital for 2 days with a blood transfusion (gave me 4 pts). The metal scent my DH is smelling from my breath used to indicate my period was coming. I wonder if I have a pool of blood sitting inside that hasn't been absorbed yet? DR didn't call me back, I will call again tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Spotting starting 4th week
I had a hyst on Jan 12. One week later I started to spot and the blood was red in color. I went to the doctor and he said that it is probably a hematoma behind my bladder and my body is trying to expell it. He also told me it is not unusual to have period like bleeding and bleeding could last months. Well, it is 7 weeks now and I am still spotting, although it has slowed down almost to a stop. Thank goodness. If you bleed more that a normal period something is wrong. Also, when the internal stitches heal there is some bleeding. Hope all is well. Hang in there.

Spotting starting 4th week
I went to the doctor on Tuesday, was having the spotting and the dizziness. They did the internal checkup and discovered that I had scar tissue that was bleeding. They applied the silver nitrate and said the spotting should stop in a few days. They decided to take blood samples to check if my hemoglobin is low or if its my thyroid level (I have hypothyroid, take synthroid, thyroid is gone). Anyway everything else was okay, DR said it looked good inside and stiches were already starting to disolve. I was so scared when it came time to put that spectrum(sp?) inside, but it really didn't hurt anymore that it usually does, so I was relieved. Thanks everyone who replied it really helped me a lot. I hope for a speedy recovery for you all.

Spotting starting 4th week
Hi, I went to the doctor yesterday and she said that I had pulled a couple of stitches at the cuff and that was probably when I passed the two huge clots on Saturday but for me to take it really easy and lie low. No driving for at least a couple more weeks (that will be 5 weeks after) until I see her on the 22nd. I guess that I just get really BORED Ugh! When you don't have the time to read you want to read and when you have the time to read you want to do other things. I miss my horse. My husband has been quite good to me but is working 6 days a week. Well, it is Friday and I am taking it easy per the Dr's orders. KAR

I have friends who keep saying "must be nice to be able to sit around and read, blah blah blah..." You are soooo right that when you have the opportunity, you want to be doing something else. I asked about the right and left sided crampiness that I tend to get in the evenings and was told that it is the ureteral-sacral ligaments that get attached to the sides of the cuff and by the end of the day, they can be pretty sore.....
Hope you are doing better...
