hurts to pee

My Dr told me to expect bladder spasms. But I was surprised when I didn't have them until 1 weeks later.

It helped not to let my bladder get too full. Also, over the counter urispas helped almost immediately.

hurts to pee

I just called my doctor yesterday about the same thing. He put me on Uristat (turns your pee orange and is over the counter) and an antibiotic. He thinks I might have a UTI. He said 20% of women get an infection from the catheter. I am hoping that it gets better. This may be the worse part of this whole surgery. You might want to contact your doctor. Good luck

hurts to pee

Hi Gunnersgal,

I developed bladder spasms and burning about 2 weeks after my LAVH on 3/14/06, and it turns out I had a bladder infection. It seemed to clear up after antibiotics.

Now, at about 4 weeks, I have *frequent* bladder spasms, and my doctor said it is likely because during the surgery they "peel" the uterus off of the bladder, and that irritates it. She recommended 2 weeks of Detrol LA since I don't have a UTI this time. I sure hope it works, because the spasms wake me up 3 or 4 times a night! It feels like someone is sharply sqeezing my poor full bladder, even though it's not that full.

It's kind of ironic, all the things I was worried about didn't happen, but I never thought of this!

hurts to pee

Hi! I am 3 days post-op and decided that nobody told my bladder that my uterus was gone so it is left confused. =) What is working well for me is to go urinate (trickly sometimes) - take a walk around the house - go urinate again and if still feeling pressure take another stroll around the house and urinate a third time. Sometimes taking up to 20 minutes or so. I am finding that the gas is competing for space and making it hard for my bladder to release. I call it my "bladder stroll". Anyway it seems to be helping me and drinking lots of water helps too. And like they said above a call to the Doctor wouldn't hurt to be sure. I hope you (all of us) feel better soon and heal well. Good luck with recovery! Take care! xoxoxo

hurts to pee

I will be 2 weeks post-op on Monday and when I pee it feels like a brain freeze but much lower. I go to the doctor on Tuesday, hopefully it's not a UTI. The pain is horrible!

FYI (for your information)

Make sure you drink plenty of water. It will relieve the burning kind of pain when you are about finished going potty.

I sometimes still have that weird feeling (i'm in my 8 and 1/2 week post op)

Make sure you get tested for bladder infection. Ever since I came home from the hosp. I have been complaining to dr. Every day pain increased finally week 5 went to family dr,because gyn would not test. Guess what, severe bladder infection that had spread to my rt kidney! Am on antibiotics now, pain has improved, that was a major source of my pain besides vaginal cuff. Push for a test!!! Some drs are idiots!! Cant wait for my next appt to tell my dr she is one!!!!
