Post-op visitors & help

So, I'm curious -
I guess I'm a bit anti-social, but did you guys enjoy people visiting you after surgery? I had offers from friends to come over and clean and stuff, but I just don't know how to say yes to that. Is that weird? I just can't imagine having someone rummaging through my house. I don't really even want visitors when I'm in my PJ's with messy hair and feeling like crap. Am I weird?

Re: Post-op visitors & help

No sweetie you aren't. It's up to each person. Once I was feeling better I didn't mind visits. But the only person I let help was my mom, she did dishes, laundry etc. I told everyone else they could just visit me and we would handle things at home. I also had meals (dinner only) delivered for the first week after surgery once I got home. That really helped my family that our friends did that for us. It was one less thing for my hubby to have to figure out. We are now working on the meals I prepared in advance and froze before surgery. Do what works best for you! You main job is to heal and not worry about the stress of visits. Take care!

I'd feel the same as you.I put them off coming when I was not up to it.If they are true friends they will understand .This is your chance to get better and things should be the way you want them.look after yourself first.

I totally understand... I had a friend being over a meal the first week I was home, and sighed a big sigh if relief when she only could drop it off. :-)

Re: Post-op visitors & help

I was lucky enough to have my mom, husband and a friend with whom the idea of privacy is null- She and I have always had total access in one another's lives- but if I'd had to rely on people with whom I did not have that kind of intimacy, I could've accepted help with the kitchen and livingroom but my bedroom and bath? Not a chance in hades could I have allowed someone I was not *that* close to dealing with my laundry, bedding, medicine cabinets, etc.

That said, if someone's willing to clean your kitchen, put your hair in a ponytail, put on a reasonably clean robe and say "Wow, you're a lifesaver! Thanks so much!".... then apologize and explain that you need to be off your feet and go to the sofa where you don't have to watch them clean.
