recovery report

I had a TAH with a vertical incision on Oct 23 to remove a 20cm x 12cm fibroid along with my uterus and cervix. I was able to keep my ovaries. The doctor found that my uterus was full of pre cancerous polyps so I am glad to get all of that out! I never guessed I would be in this place at 39 years old. The anxiety building up to the surgery was extremely difficult and the surgery and recovery have not been bad as I had feared. I had some difficulty coming out of anesthesia, I was only breathing 4 times per minute and kept setting off the monitors. I remember waking up to the alarms, hearing my husband say, "breathe." and then being too tired to continue and going back to sleep. I think I scared him quite a bit. The next difficulty was that I started feeling nauseous and vomiting despite being given many anti-nausea medications. I soon as I stopped using the morphine pump, that resolved quickly. I received really wonderful care in the hospital and I want to start a fan club for my doctor. She came to see me twice a day while I was in the hospital and has called me at home twice on top of my two post op visits. She has been responsive and supportive and wonderful. Now almost three weeks out, I am mostly off pain meds, I have not driven yet but that is really because I have not had to, and I am starting to get a bit stir crazy. I had wonderful friends that brought in food for the first two weeks and now we are using the meals that I prepared and froze before my surgery. I still have quite a bit of swelling and my back has been hurting quite a bit. I am going to start PT for that next week. I am feeling quite emotionally sensitive and fragile and living in a house with all boys, my husband and two teenage boys, they just don't get it. Anytime I have a cry, or a sad face they think it is pain. Once they realize that it is emotional, they run. Silly boys. Luckily my two little wiener dogs know that I need lots of snuggling and they are pros at that.
