My experience so far (TAH on 25 October)

I had my abdominal surgery on 25 October, as my
Uterus was the size of a 5 month pregnancy, with several fibroids, the largest being 10 x 9 x 8cm.
I wasnt aware of any particular symptoms beforehand, but realise now that I must have been putting up with stuff i thought was 'normal' - frequent peeing, bloated Tum etc.
Anyway, the surgeon ended up finding numerous fibroids -too many to count, plus endometriosis. My uterus upon removal weighed 1.1kg instead of 80grams.
I stayed a bit longer in hospital as I couldn't get my bladder to empty below 100ml, and even though i am still struggling to do so, the doctor allowed me to go home today as he thinks my bladder has been pushed for so long by the fibroids that it needs to learn how to work properly again. I was tested for an infection just in case but all is ok.

So here I am at home on my first day, trying not to give in to my constant urge to pee, and making sure I double void when I do so.
I feel very tearful, though I know it is normal. I feel that I have been constantly monitored and looked after in the hospital as someone special going through something major, and now I am home, no one cares (of course my partner, the dog, and my friends do) but it is feels somewhat like an anti climax, everyone has their own lives going on and I feel very flat.
Whilst the whole experience of my hysterectomy went as smoothly as it could and the staff were lovely too, I still found the whole experience (never having had an operation before either) quite a traumatic one.
