Hysterectomy stitches

I had my hysterectomy 1-1/2 years ago. A year after the surgery, I had inner stitches (what my doc said) come thru the walls of whatever is left down there. They were like fishing string. I went to doc and he cut them out. I just went back the other day because i had more come thru and they cut my husband's penis. I asked the doc if this was normal and he said it does happen, but not very often. I was given 3 shots to numb the area and he worked for about 40 minutes cutting out stitches and surrounding skin, I have been bleeding for 3 days now and cramps have stopped. Has this ever happened to anyone else? This is crazy

Hysterectomy stitches

Hi Terri
I'm sorry you have had to go through this. We had a similar experience with stitches, much like yours, only I wasn't as far out as you.

At about 7 or 8 wks out we had the same thing happen with sex because of sutures that were like fishing line. At the time my dr said he has seen them show up, up to a year later still not dissolved. I had to go in and have them cut out too. I was shocked that they would use something that didn't dissolve any better than that. I've seen it mentioned by a few other women on the boards, but not many.

After having the stitches clipped there were still some rough places because of ends sticking out, but not painful, able to cut places. It didnt take long for tissue to grow over those and that took care of it for good. I hope you'll heal up just fine and not have any more problems.

My dr's nurse said, she didn't mean to be rude, but they always have to laugh a little when it's the husbands who call in complaining because of pain.

Hysterectomy stitches

Holy cow....How common is this issue!? My hubby and I go in for my 6 week checkup on Wednesday..... What sort of stitches are used that don't dissolve properly? What should I ask the DR about this issue?

Hysterectomy stitches

Not sure why but sometimes they just don't all disolve or absorb. Again with my other surgery last year people had the same problem of stitches working their way out through skin and it would be like a little pimple that got red before they popped. I heard up to one year it can happen though thankfully it only happened once early on for me and I am at the one year mark for that ( breast reduction)

as for this surgery it does sound like a major OUCH to have doc go in and cut them from our vagina sorry to hear about you but hope it is a short lived ouch and you are back havening good sex withing the week
