What can I expect to feel after BSO?

My date is Nov. 27, just made it today. New to this site as of Monday! Removing 2 ovaries is also new to me as of Monday. What can I expect to feel? Is this considered a big operation? Will be a laparoscopy. How much recovery should I expect? Will there be pain afterwards? What can I expect in general?

Thank you.

cyst on ovary, family history of ovarian cancer, most likely removing both ovaries on 11/27.

What can I expect to feel after BSO?

Hi susanckd and welcome!

Glad you found us! I'm a fellow LI-er!

A good place to start reading here is on the home page...scroll down to the Pull Down Menus to "Princesses Tell Their Stories". You will find stories from many sisters who have had a variety of procedures, LAVH included.

I had TAH/BSO, and started HRT five days after my surgery. It's been fine for me. Recovery time is generally 6 to 8 weeks before resuming normal activities...with the laproscopic procedure, it may be a bit shorter. Each of us heals differently; just give yourself plenty of time, listen to your body, and take things as slowly as you can.

Keep reading and posting, and we'll all be here to help!

I just can't stand that waving smilie - it is the absolute cutest thing I've ever seen in my life! That darn little thing makes anything better. The nice words help too. Thanks.
